A little over a week ago, Hersheypark Outfitters was filled with toys, merchandise and tourists squeezing in a final weekend at the Derry Township amusement park. Four days after Spring Creek crested in the heart of Hershey, all the remains of the store are bare studs and the sounds of hammers as work crews tear apart Lee’s leftovers. It won’t be until Wednesday or Thursday before the park’s staff will know whether or not the amusement park will re-open this weekend.

It didn't appear that they had the same insane current that Knoebels did. At least, it doesn't look like anything was outright moved. The north half of the park is all on significantly higher ground, isn't it? The one part of the park I can't visualize is the elevation change near the shooter dark ride and up under Storm Runner.

My initial reaction is that they are doing very well at getting as much done as they have. I remember Hurricane Agnes and how devastating that was. It's just ironic that part of Hersheypark's charm in my opinion, is the creek and the elevation changes. I guess it's the good with the bad.
Hersheypark was my home park growing up. The Comet was the first roller coaster I ever rode. Hopefully they can get things cleaned up soon, repair damages, and get Zoo America back up and running after the tragic loss of one of their Bison.
Latest facebook from Hershey says that they are "ready ride" this weekend. They posted that all rides, with the possible exception of the sooperdooperlooper and Tidal Force should be running.

I heard they're replacing it with a Capybara exhibit. ;)
They had to scrap that idea. Somebody left them in the car, then they ran away. Too bad. Capybaras can swim, unlike bison.
Well, most of them. I'm deliberately ignoring the Cat in the Ass stuff. That's just stark-Raven mad.

Egg-cellent. I was planning to go NEXT weekend for a while now, before the floods. I've got a free ticket that expires the 25th, so I'm going on the 24th.
The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

These are two of the better slideshows I've seen on youtube showing scenes from the flood in NE and central PA

Just announced by Hersheypark via Facebook: sooperdooperlooper should be running this weekend. Nothing was said about Tidal Force.
I wonder if Tidal Force's down time is due to the flooding or some other factor? I mean it sits on the "high ground" and not in the creek valley that was underwater.
We are headed there today for a few rides, and to renew our passes. I don't foresee a problem at the park. Seen it flooded a few times before, and they recover fast. If there's something to report I'll let you know.
