HersheyPark or Dorney Park?

Which is better if you have to pick between the two? I am going to PA on vacation and would like to know who has the better bang for the buck.

Would Kennywood be much better than either of these two?

Thanks Much!

Dorney park-steel force=very good (turnaround is awsome)
talon=very good ( there are better inverts)
laser=pretty good
wild mouse=okay
thunderhawk=pretty good
hercules=very good (2nd best wooden I have been on)
Hershey park-Great bear=very good(there are better inverts including talon)
lightning racer=very good(best wooden coast i have ever been on)
wildcat=very good(4th best wooden coaster I have ever been on)
comet=pretty good
sidewinder=good(standard vekoma boomerang)
sooperdooperlooper=pretty good
wild mouse=okay

If you want good wooden coasters go to hershey if you want good steel go to dorney! Did you ever consider kennywood park! New phantoms revenge is awsome and it only costs 15 bucks to ride all day! what a great park! but if it's between dorney and hershey go to dorney park! I personally like it better! dorney also has dominator!

Dorney has better "value" in my opinion. Hershey has decent rides, but is lacking good water rides, so Dorney IMO is the better choice.

Dorney Park just... rules!
Dorney Park!
Talon Rules The Sky !
How could you choose? I bet you havn't been to either! ;)

There are currently 11 coasters with the name Batman, 8 with the name Superman and 22 with the name Boomerang. Batman and Superman: The Ultimate Chiller Knight Flight Krypton Escape Ride.
What make you think I havent huh ?
I dunno, Hershey has a better atmosphere and bettter woodies. Dorney has better steel, and more wet rides.

Talon=Awesome

Hersheypark guy! Opinions are one thing, facts are another. The fact is, HP is about three times the size of Dorney and it's better in EVERY category. Wood, steel and for sure, water rides.
Please explain how hershey has better steel?

-------------
Talon=Awesome

Hershey claims to have only like 110 acres, whereas Dorney is almost 200 acres! So how do you get that Hershey is 3X as big as Dorney?!?!?! And Dorney does have better steel and water rides! DP has Wildwater for g*d sake! And DP's steel coaster are much better than Hershey's. Trailblazer is pretty bad, SDL is ok, sidewinder a typical boomerang, wild mouse good, and GB is good but waaaaaaay too short. Steel Force is amazing! Talon is awsome! and Laser is so intense that is makes you black out! Hershey is only better for wood coasters and atmosphere.
And you get into 2 parks(DP&WWK) for about the same price as 1 park(Hershey). So I think it is a better deal to go to Dorney! I've said enough for now.

Peace Out!
TALON is the ruler of inverts! *** This post was edited by DorneyJunkie on 5/22/2001. ***
eww,,,dorney is way better. yeah they have more roller coasters but they all suk! dorney has truly world class rides.
Its depends on what you are looking for. I go them both. Personally I think that Hershey is better than Dorney.

Like everyone has been saying Dorney does have better steel coasters,Dominator,and an (overcrowded) waterpark. I love the Steel Force, Thunderhawk is cool, Laser is cool, First Drop on Hercules is cool rest of it is lame, Wild Mouse sucks, and I am sure Talon Is cool (riding it soon) Cedar Fair has a done a great job with this park. At the sametime they took out attractions that I liked, and alot of trees. But they had to expand.

Hershey is better in every other category. The atmosphere is such a big factor to Hershey's appeal. The trees and landscaping plays a big part in that. Being a family park Hershey is great at what they do. With that said they are rapidly expanding into a thrillpark without alienating their roots as a family park. A few years ago I didn't even go to HP, because it was boring. When they added the Wildcat back in 1996 they have just gotten so much better. I have had a season pass for the past 2 years. They have a great woodie collection. Great Bear is good but short. I am sure Talon is better. I love the Wild Mouse (best one I have been on.) The rest are good. They just need a good Hypercoaster.

Its all a matter of opinion, and Hershey has my vote. Its really a close race. I would say make it a 2 day trip and go to both. Both great parks and worth a visit. *** This post was edited by Coaster Fantom on 6/27/2001. ***
It all depends on what type of coasters you've already done. I just did both parks along with 15 others less than a month ago and I have to say Dorney Park was very poor in comparison to Hershey.

ALL of Dorney's coasters have trims, including Talon. The woodies were two of the worst on my entire trip (out of about 30 woodies on the trip). Steel Force is good (especially the turnaround), but is far from the best hyper, and the same for Talon.

Hershey is a far better park with a great atmosphere and two great woodies. Although Wildcat is not my favorite it has been rated as the world's no.1 woodie. Steel coasters are abit lacking, the Wild Mouse is better than Dorney's, Great Bear is about as good as Talon, SDL and Trailblazer are poor.

If you like woodies, and all round good parks, Hershey is the place.

If you want a water park and have never ridden a hyper then go to Dorney.

Parks done 2001: BPB, PKI, SFWOA, CP, KW, HP, DP, Knoebels, Astroland, SFGAdv, SFNE, SFA, LC, Moreys Pier, PKD, PCW, BGW, DMP.
I think the ride all day pass is more than $15 at Kennywood. It is cheaper than the other parks, but rather small. It has great atmosphere, however. I can't wait to make my annual trip.

i would pick hershey.

"who needs drugs when you have coasters...they're like a natural high"
I have never been to Hershey but Dorney is a pretty good park. As other have mentioned it does lack atmosphere. Every way have fun

yes dorney does lack atmosphere. maybe that is why it isnt a theme park. its just a small town park w major rides like knoebles. hershey is all themed upon the damn chocolate factory. it has an easy way out of theming. if the town wouldnt be known for chocolate,the park would have no theming. that is just my 31 cents. and no matter what anyone says dorney is way better. hershey gets way too crowded. yes they have more coasters. but where hershey excels in quantity, dorney makes up for in quality. dorney has awesome coasters. and hershey also gets way too crowded. and whoever posted about hershey being bigger obviously has no clue what they are talking about. and the lines for the rides at dorney are sooo much quicker.
Grant, Talon may have a trim, but they DON'T even use it!!! I think Talon is the best invert out there, out of the 1's i've ridden.

And if you want to get specific, Dorney actually does have more coasters than Hershey.
Dorney-SF, Talon , Laser, Herc, THawk, WM, WE, LittleLaser, & Dragon Coaster
Hershey-Comet, SDL, Trailblazer, GB, Sidewinder, Wildcat, WM, & LR

And Hershey must not be very good at the family park thing cuz they don't even have coasters just for the kids! At least Dorney does!

TALON rocks! Peace out!
I'd go to Knoebels, myself. You can spend to whole day and not spend a dime. Or you ride all day if you want. It's a small park, don't get me wrong, but the atmosphere is great as well as the food. And the best reason of all to go is the Phoenix!!!! Every one needs to ride this coaster a few dozen times. One great ride!!
Hersheypark has a better atmosphere than Dorney. I think you're more likely to have a fun day at Hersheypark than a fun day a Dorney. HOWEVER...
If you're looking at it from a coaster point of view...
Hersheypark = Wood
Dorney = Steel

No other way to put it. Dorney has one decent wood (T-hawk) and a bunch of good steels (mainly Talon and Steel Force). Hersheypark has two awesome woodies (Lightning Racer and Wildcat), one average woodie (Comet), and one good steel (Great Bear). All of Hershey's other steel coasters suck.

If you haven't been to either, make a choice based on coasters. I'm pretty sure the crowds/line times will be roughly the same.
