Hersheypark Hyper?

CoasterChic

Ever heard of the cliche NEVER SAY NEVER!

A while back Screamscape had stated that you might indeed see a hypercoaster at HP as well as an S&S Sports Tower. Now while these are certainly rumors, Screamscapes credibility has been pretty good for the most part. Also, I too have inside sources and friends that are directly involved with Hersheypark and they are not ruling it out what so ever.
So far I didn't hear of anything for 2001 other than a lightshow but I don't know if its true or not. My union local has jusirsdiction over the Hershey area so if they build any coaster or ride I should hear of it at one of our meetings.

Since I'll be making my first trip to Hersheypark this summer, any new additions don't really change my thoughts about the park... I'm hype no matter what! It's just like Talon at Dorney. Since I've never been there before, I'm just as excited about Talon as I am about Steel Force.

Steel Force is definately a great ride..Magnum is a bit better though.
I'm sorry I just don't see Hershey getting anything quite that thrilling..not while they have their current management.
They have already turned down a B+M Floorless that was supposed to come in 2002.
I was present on the day they were surveying the land for it.
So that one is definately out.
As far as a Tower, I highly doubt it..they have already turned down a Skycoaster quite a few times.:):):)

Hershey turned down a Floorless and a Skycoaster?? I thought parks were the one to beg the manufacturers for the rides and not the other way around!

Doesn't HP have a height limit? As this could be the reason Great Bear is only 124ft with a 90ft drop. If so, would rule out the Hyper.

As far as I know, HP does not have a height limit. The Great Bear was pretty much maxed out because of it's ingenious location and positioning in the park. I don't think they could have really went any higher with it. I do find it interesting that the cost of the ride was 1 million in change more than the Raptor even though it's not quite as big or has as many inversions.

Nightlights is coming this year, but I don't know the full details on it yet. I'm hoping it's similar to Cedar Point's Summer Spectacular.

Also, don't be surprised to see a stand-up sneak it's way onto the grounds here shortly, may be even by 2002.
CoasterGod, minor correction. Great Bear is 90' tall and has a drop of 124'.

Superstew, I think the reason for Bear costing more than Raptor would be

1. Constructed four years later.
2. The incredible placement of the supports, so as not to interfere with the water.

I'll vouch for the Great Bear construction costs. At one job I was working at a Few of the guys were working on it. The one guy was telling me they hooked him up to a cable to make a few connections behind the sooperdooperlooper hanging a few feet above the water. He told me there was no other way to get it done since a JLG wouldn't get back in there.
