Hersheypark has new rides in store for 2003

Posted | Contributed by SLFAKE

Hersheypark will add four rides, an expanded theater and a statue of Milton S. Hershey in 2003. The rides include a "pendulum-type" ride, mini-scrambler, The Flying Scooter and a mini-swinging ship.

Huss is capable of keeping up with the parts, its the importing that is delayed. There were some issues that have risen over the past 3 seasons on availability and speed across the ocean. They will work it out with the right distributor.

I really like HersheyPark, and being as our family is moving to Martinsburg, WV, it is probably the logical choice for our us to make HP our home park. What would put HP over the top as far as we can see is the opening of a waterpark section, simular to what is offered at PKD and Six Flags America. The addition of these flat rides and a statue are of no interest, they already offer a great assortment of non-coaster rides for kiddies and adults. Although for us, if it isn't a rollercoaster we're pretty much not interested anyway.

Aren't they also getting rid of the Conestoga Wagon and Starship America rockets? I hate to see them go, but I'm not too bothered by the Cyclops, as I can ride one at Dorney or Cedar Point.
Freakzilla, don't forget you've also got Knoebels and Dorney within reach also.

Sounds like an *excellent* addition to DW....another good move by Hershey. Thanks for the info, AJ...

The proverbial *icing on the cake* comes when we find out for certain that HP runs the flyers as nature intended, and allows snapping...talk about the perfect addition by a near-perfect park...

The park will be getting a ride simmilar to Delirium at PGA. It will be called "The Claw".
Hersheypark was my home park as a child (I now live in Baltimore, MD). I remember being awed by both Cyclops and Conestoga, then finally getting up the nerve to ride them. I grew to love 'em both! Cyclops was exhilarating and breezy and became one of my favorite non-coaster rides there. I'm planning to go to Hersheypark on Easter weekend and am already dreading the appearance of the park with those classic rides now gone. It will never be the same. =( On the other hand, the Claw looks like fun. I wonder where exactly it will be going....

By the way, does anyone else remember the Skyride attraction that went across the park???? It was also a pretty cool ride. Ah, the good ole days!

Lawrence, do you mean the skyride that you got on by the carousel and could get off by the log flume, I believe? I remember that. It came in handy after a long day at the park.
I'll miss walking into the park and not seeing the hand/foot imprints. They could always display them in the museum.

Went rode the flyers today. On a scale of 0 to Knoebel's they're a 0. I think they're too fast, but I could barely lose tension in the rear cable and couldn't get any real snap. Granted I'm not an expert, but I could get a little on PKD's and got some good snaps last PPP.
