Hershey to add an interactive water coaster

Posted | Contributed by jgfama

Hesheypark will introduce a Setpoint Swing Thing with water effects (a la Paramount's Carowinds Super Saturator) with 1,300 feet of tubular track, a 70-foot lift hill and will travel approximately 50 feet above the ground as it twists sideways. Maximum speed is 30 feet per second. Best of all, Hersheypark wants you to name it.

Read all about it on the official Hersheypark site.

The lift says 45-50 feet.
Cool. I guess we heard it first from GandC. This will fit in perfectly with Hershey's family atmosphere, and is a way better move for them than a hyper.

I really like the fact that their rides are geared to the entire family, and while they are not the most intense around, they are exciting and fun enough to keep everyone happy.

Sounds pretty cool hopefully one day I might actually get to ride it.

My favorite Coaster is named after Poop, and I actually like Boomerangs! What is wrong with me?
The Hershey Squirtirator?!?!!? hahahahahahaha
BMC that is hilarious!!!!!

While I'm still not convinced that a hyper would NOT fit into Hershey, I think this ride will suit them fine. But now I have less of a reason to go back to Carowinds....:(

This is a great move for the park. Not only will this ride be fun but it will be geared towards families which most parks have seemed to forgot about now-a-days.

Instead of water, they should use hot chocolate... or syrup.... better yet, just make the whole coaster out of chocolate!

*ahem*...

Sounds cool, super saturator type rides look interesting and I would like to ride one. I am glad we can strike out that rumor at SFDL.. well, based on opinion...

Yes, we certianly did hear about this along time ago. See, not all rumors are bad. Just not that many of them are good. I'm assuming because of it's location near the tubing ride that you'll be able to ride in your swimsuit. That's the only way I would ride one of these contraptions, unless it was 100 degrees outside (and boy would I love one of these right now!).

With several hours to go till the hottest part of the day, it's 92 degrees and 68% humidity in Hershey right now. Imagine what the line for this coaster would be like right now!
Hershey Squirtirator doesn't seem too family-friendly, but I like it! Certainly the ride is "less thrill, but more fun" and seems to fit very well.

I'm the guy that posted the rumor on Thrillride. All it was really was putting two and two. (Actually what I posted was more of a reference to Jeff's article from the IHAPPA show)

Setpoint said they were building a coaster in the Northeast and Hershey said they were building an interactive family ride. Saw this one coming. :) Good reporting Jeff.

Nice addition for Hershey. The Saturator at carowinds is a very fun ride, although lacking the major thrills that other coasters deliver (it was geared more towards interactive fun anyways). I love how interactive these rides are! Ive ridden Saturator, and wow, what a wet ride. The only problem with the swing things is the lines for them. On an average day at Carowinds, Saturator can get lines up to 2 hrs long!! But its a great way to cool off.

Gives me another reason to head to Hershey as well!
Yay! A steel coaster for Hershey. I hope the construction goes union. I'll have to talk with my B.A.(business agent) and try to get on the crew to erect it. :)

Hello, My name is Dan and I'm a coasterholic.
The site says 9 vehicles, which should increase capacity, as the the most I've seen running at Carowinds is 4, with one on the transfer. It appears to be the same layout as the Saturator with a little bit taller of a lift and a little bit more track.
Awesome!!!!! I love hershey park- it's my second favorite amusement park with cedar point at number one. This is a wonderful addition for them. I wonder what name i'll enter in...hmm..i'll have to think about that one.

If you get a chance to visit Paramount Carowinds and ride the Super Saturator you will love it. Each rider has a lever that controls a tank that holds 4 gallons of water. There are a couple of places along the track that you can dump the water on unsuspecting guests walking along the ride path. I once scored a direct hit on two employees on the way to work. They got soaked and weren't too happy. There is no way to stay dry on this ride. With all the water cannons along the perimeter of the ride path you will be soaked to the bone. Great fun on a hot day.
