Hershey Park - August 17

We left around 8am to arrive at Hershey around 9:15am. Forgetting to make a stop the day before at AAA to purchase tickets, we were forced to wait in the astronomical line for tickets at the gate. I knew right then the park was going to be entirely too crowded for us to hit all of the major attractions. Well, after waiting in the ticket line for about 50 minutes, we finally got into the park noticing the signs that Storm Runner, Hershey's newest roller coaster, was out of operation for the day. Dissappointed, yes, but we weren't going to let that ruin our day.

We headed over to that area anyway to see what was up with the ride. To our best of luck, as soon as we arrived, they opened the gates and let us on. Wow, only a 5 minute wait for the front seat...perfect timing! It was a great ride...smooth, fast, and extremely intense. Obviously it isn't no Top Thrill Dragster, but it still packs a good punch. We followed up our ride on Storm Runner with two quick rides on Wildcat which virtually had no wait all day. After that, we basically made our way around the park hitting all of the roller coasters and some of the good flat rides such as the Claw, Chaos, and the Flying Falcon. We ended up getting 8 rides on Storm Runner as the wait proved to be no more than 15 minutes all day and the crew was dispatching at a pretty good interval despite only running two trains. It was a great day. I really like Hershey Park; it's close, nice, has good rides, and has great food.

The rides overal...

Storm Runner (8 times) - Fast and extremely intense. The inversions are very cool and you experience some great airtime throughout the entire ride. Very smooth as well. [10/10]

Wildcat (3 times) - A little bumpier than from what I remember it last year, but still a great woodie. [8/10]

Lightning Racer (1 time on each) - Both were smooth and seemed faster than year's past (probably just me). Both great rides [9/10]

The Claw (1 time) - This turned out to be our longest wait of the day. We waited nearly an hour to ride it and it wasn't really worth it. The only thing it did was make me dizzy for the next 30 minutes. [2/10]

The Great Bear (2 times)- Way too short. Raptor has this one clobbered. The helix at the top of the lift is cool, but other than that, I wasn't impressed. [5/10]

SuperDooperLooper (1 time) - This ride still makes me smile [9/10]

Sidewinder (1 time) - Ick! I could have had more fun running around my house 3 times and bashing myself with a sledge hammer. [1/10]

**We didn't ride Rollersoaker or The Comet because of extremely long waits. Rollersoaker was 2.5 hours and The Comet's queue was FULL. I couldn't believe that..

Wow, I guess you have a low spinning ride threshold. I've never thought of the Revolution/Afterburner as being a ride that would make you dizzy. I could see the regular Frisbee doing that however.

And Alpengeist has Raptor clobbered! Sorry, just had to throw that in there.

And Sidewinder is actually one of the smoothest Boomerangs out there believe it or not, and I've ridden way too many of them.

Comet is a very popular ride due to a) nostalgia b) its proximity to the front of the park and c) because of its mild ride compared to the other woodies

If you think that was bad, I was there one day when they had two rows of stancions (the poles with the connecting straps you see at the movies) on top of the regular queue! That was a Sunday that also had a two-mile backup on Hershey Drive.
