Herschend to acquire Palace Entertainment

Posted | Contributed by PhantomTails

From the press release:

Herschend and Parques Reunidos have signed a definitive agreement under which Herschend will acquire all of Palace Entertainment’s U.S. entertainment properties from Parques Reunidos. This agreement represents a significant milestone for both organizations—supporting Herschend’s strategic expansion in family entertainment and hospitality while allowing Parques Reunidos to reinforce its strategic focus on its core European market.

I’m really happy about this, Kennywood and Adventureland could use some touches I know the Hershends will bring. Plus it’s great to have more places to get Cinnamon bread.

Ditto on all counts. It will be interesting to see how well the current Herschend model translates to a larger organization. Fingers crossed!

All I know is I ain’t trying to trade French fries for cinnamon bread…

^Embrace both. Or maybe a new combination, cinnamon fries. Probably need to be sweet potatoes to pull that off though.

Kennywood is my home park and I think Patch fries are the poorest excuse for fresh cut fries in existence. Limp, soggy, and unseasoned. Perhaps they were a novelty in 1973 but that time has come and gone.

I was born in 1973, and let me tell ya, limp, soggy, and unseasoned fries were the **** back then.

Most fresh cut fries are not great, especially as most are only fried once.

Frozen twice fried fries >> single fried fresh cut >> RRR

This is good news. Maybe Herschend can help Kennywood get its magic back. That park used to give me warm fuzzies. Nowadays, it's more like a Camden Park vibe.

But you forgot fresh double fried fries.

Bonus points for peanut oil, and eating them hot with salt and malt vinegar.

This seems like Hershend will now be similar (at least in #'s of parks) to the older Cedar Fair before they acquired the Paramount Parks.

Does Herschend sell beer at any of their parks?

But very different in terms of the mix of parks and other attractions. Like the old 3-park Cedar Fair plus some tiny places, a bunch of standalone waterparks, aquariums, and … the Harlem Globetrotters? There’s no reason they couldn’t keep that mix of things, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they decided to refocus by selling some of those businesses off.

Touchdown:

cinnamon fries

Cinnamon Fries would go crazy

Counting down the days until I'm back at Cedar Point, the one and only place to be.

This was a good question. After some research, they do not sell it at Dollywood or Silver Dollar City, but they do sell it at Kentucky Kingdom. As such, I'd imagine they will continue to do so at Kennywood.

Here's another question: will they keep the "scary" Halloween events? Dollywood and SDC have family friendly events. Kentucky Kingdom had a scary event but it went away when Herschend took over the park.

I haven't been to the event in years, but Compounce has a great Halloween event I hope they leave it alone.

I kinda hope they leave the park mostly alone in general. Could use another coaster/big flat or two but I'm pretty fond of it.
