I rented a car set at one price for 7 days and no mileage limit. The only thing I had to do was return the car with a full tank of gas.
My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.
l. I think Shivering Timbers is one of those great woodies a coaster lover has to ride so he knows what people are talking about. The rest of the park may not be up to ST standards, but the drive is worth it. It is certainly a better use of limited time than The Dells.
2. Staying inside the park at Indiana Beach is a great experience, although you have to accept going in that the motel was built in 1930 and was last updated in the 1940s. In 2003, Sunday through Thursday, rooms started at $64 and cabins at $40.
3. However, other great options are staying across the suspension bridge at the 1930 Spears Lodge (219-583-8918) or the 1887 Black Dog Inn (574-583-8297), probably the only amusement park bed and breakfast in the country. Standard room $79, but it includes a great breakfast, swimming off the private dock or in a heated pool, and a great old mansion with a beautiful yard looking across the water at Hoosier Hurricane.
4. Still at Indiana Beach, the Sky Room is the finest restaurant at any amusement park in America, at 1950s prices. Walls are full glass, so you eat looking straight up the midway with the Giant Wheel rotating in the distance and the lake to your left.
5. At Holiday World, the Santa Claus Motel is right across and down the street, reasonably priced and quaint.
6. If you're staying in Louisville, the Executive Inn is right across the parking lot from SFKK and is definitely worth a night's stay.
7. There are several places to stay right around King's Island and the shuttles they run allow you to avoid the parking hassle.
If you go to the Dells, Big Chiefs won't disappoint. The woodies are good and the go-carts are a blast. If your in that area, hit Little A-Merrick-A. Tell them you are a coaster clubber and they will roll out the red carpet for you.
If you want to ride one of the best and funest rides on the planet go ride ST at MiA. If you want to avoid Chicago you can go across the lake here:
IB and HW are a must for more good wood. HW is the premier place for flawlessly maintained wood.
If you have a choice between SFKK and PKI, go to PKI and ride the Legendary Beast.
Good luck at SFGrAm. Its a zoo but has some pretty darn good rides. Raging Bull makes it worth the trip.
SFKK to HW = 1 hr
HW to IB = 3-4 hr
IB to SFGAm = 3 hr
this is with no traffic delays btw :)
Frank, who would take Thunder Run over the Beast anyday. ;)
