Raven, even though a Coasterbuzz member *may* have a fix for your problem, it's likely that you'll get a more detailed solution to your problem in a shorter amount of time if you email Atari's tech support. Since this problem appears to be somewhat widespread, chances are that they'll know what to do, or at least consider a bug fix for the next patch.
There are a couple suggestions listed here. That page should also contain a link to email support in case your problem is not resolved.
If we can't use shorthand than why are veteran members always saying LOL, BTW, ROFL, LMAO, ?

I'd get as much card as you can afford - not just for this game (because it seems to max out at a certain point), but for everything in general.

My personal opinion is that you overpay at any bricks and mortar store.
I'm a big newegg fan.
ATI 9600XT cards with 128MB of RAM start at $134
*** Edited 12/31/2004 7:12:12 PM UTC by Lord Gonchar***
Also, at Newegg.com they have a 9600XT for $189 and a 9800 for $170. The 9800 has a better rating and 256MB, the 9600XT has a lower rating and 128MB. I'm not very familiar with this video card stuff, which is better? I'm not even sure what my motherboard can take for expansion, I current have a MachSpeed P4DMFP Motherboard, will that take these video cards? *** Edited 12/31/2004 7:35:42 PM UTC by RavenXtreme***
