Have you ever mad a ride op mad?

Just a couple weeks ago, I was at DL and loved how the ops didn't care if your restraint wasn't down all the way, and they didn't even think about stapeling you in so, on Space Mountain I had the little lap bar preety high up like lower mid thigh! But I had my hands on it looking like I was gonna keep it down and push down more then lady came and said this:" Keeping your lap bar up is cool but it isn't safe" Hmm It's cool to brake ruels!? Of course I pushed it down but she didn't come back to re check me. The occourence happen at DCA on a walk on ride of Muppet's 3d.
I climb under the handrailing by the lady handing out 3d glasses and she said when she handed glasses to me" I just didn't see you climbing under that rail did I? That's a safty hazard" I at the very moment wanted to bring up all the acciedents they have had in the last months. OH IT would of beeen funny, I could of defeated her in a debate no problem eithier!

When i went to PKI a couple weeks ago, while waiting in line for Flight of Fear, just about everyone, including me and my brother, were either sitting or standing on the hand rails. The ride op comes on and says "DON'T SIT OR STAND ON THE HAND RAILS." What ticked me off was that he didn't say please. Everybody got off the handrails, but then we all thought, he didn't say anything about leaning, so everybody, and I do mean everybody, started leaning on the handrails. The speaker came back on, but then you could hear a ride op whispering through the loudspeaker saying something along the lines of just forget about, they ain't going to listen to you rookie.

Vortex rules!!!! (still)
Once on the ride days of thunder the go carts at pki I saw a kid just royally piss one of the ops off. after repeated warning of no bumping he almost sent someone through the rails. The op forgot all about his job and cussed they guy out. He went as far as kicking him off the ride , I think he was going to get security on him. I just sat in the line and cracked up.

chill factor
sometime i would like to. They always take thier time like no one is there, then finally once thier done talking they come over and check your thing. and whenever one of them yells at me for sitting on the railing i just do it more, cause i get sick of standing in line for 2 hours.

Maybe they should be paid more to put up with people like me. Oh well.

Some states do have laws that say that you can be fined and/or arrested for disobeying safety rules from a ride operator at an amusement park. Ohio does. I'll bet someone here knows the O.R.C. number for it...I should by now, it's on the walls of our station at MF twice and in the queue and unload platform as well. If you're told once and still disobey, a strict ride op (someone maybe militant, right Legendary? ;o)) might call Security on you and have you escorted from the park or worse.

So yes, we can legally enforce our rules.

Thanks. :o)

Todd, I'll try and let you save your top 5 by letting you know they don't like it when you list vertically -it's something to do with space limitations and nothing personal if they cut it off...

Oh and for those that don't want to obey SAFETY rules, they can escort you out. To ride-ops in general, we love you guys for the work you do even without putting up with the ocassional "rude" guest. To those VERY few ride-ops who do make up the occasional rule for kicks, sign up for a job with the police or something where you can actually have the "authoritah" you so obviously desire. *** This post was edited by gatorwoodie on 8/13/2001. ***
If you really think it's amusing to go to an amusement park to poke fun at/irritate/annoy/antagonise/be rude to/insult/torment/stress out the ride ops then you really would be better off back in nursery school, or kindergarten (depending on where you are from).
There are more important things in life to do than make life a pain for others.

"'cos you know, it's strange! You stand in a library and go "AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH" and everyone just kinda stares at you, but if you do the same thing on a aeroplane everyone joins in!"
Regarding sitting on the handrails. I witnessed a situation not too long ago where the top rail was loose and free to rotate in the stanchions. A girl decided to sit on the rail and she spun all the way around and fell off. She was lucky that she didn't crack her skull on the concrete.

The rules are there to insure safety and it is in your best interest to obey them. Too many injuries will only lead to more rules and higher insurance prices for the parks (higher prices for YOU).

Here you go:

"Under the Ohio Revised Code, Section 1711.551, riders must obey all warning and operator instructions regarding amusement park rides and behave in a matter that will not cause or contribute to injury to himself or others. The includes rides behaving in an unruly fashion or who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or other chemical intoxicants. A violation of this law is a misdemeanor." - Cedar Point Fun Guide(Map)

Why would You go make Ride-OPs mad!! I happen to be a ride op. The thing with the rails, we don't say that just to make someone mad. You could fall off hurt yourself or even other people, You could break the rail. People like to play with the gates and shake them ride on them, Then get mad when we tell them to stop, well the gates break-the ride breaks and we have to shut down untill its fixed. as far as making up own rules, would you want someone to come into your work and do anything that could possibly break something. I don't think so!! And where someone said that they aren't dumb enough to run into a train, well There are little kids who aren't that smart, ive had to grab a couple from doing so. SOme people are really dumb at amusement parks, i never realized this till working at one, But once on a flat ride I had some teenager manually open the seat (he seen us open one and found the button on the bottem) and jump out while the ride is still moving and in the air.. Had i been in a bad mood I would have called security and he would have got in a lot of trouble, but I yelled at him for about 10 min and told him i see Him in this part of the park EVER again I will call security. But People please think twice HOw would You feel if you were the ride op and someone did somthing stupid to make you mad!!?? As far as the wait, we try our best to make it faster, and if you don't wanna stand in line that long don't complain about it just don't stand there No one is making you!!!
