Has anyone seen the Roller Coaster Tycoon Pinball

I think my personal favorite shot on the machine is the yellow ramp shot (the Rocket?) that basically ends up having the ball do a lap & a half around the playfield.

You can't strap RCT to anything and assume its good. I've played this machine and am a fan of pinball in general, but this is one of the WORST pinball games I have ever played.

As someone who isn't exactly a pinball guy, I'm interested in that comment, Mark. Why is it the worst? That's not a challenge, it's an honest question.

I think it's fun, but as far as pinball goes, I'm stirctly "GP" :)

I thought it was fun, but the bumpers are weak. I love the old Williams machines where if you hit the ball just right, it'll jump up and smack the glass.

You might have been playing a "slow" machine. I have mine set up a little on the "fast" side and you can get that ball rocking. More than once I've been startled at how hard the ball smacks the glass. Get it really moving, and it's like baseball - a fast one coming in, smack with the flipper and you can send it over the lowest blue metal running ramp.

Again, just my thoughts as a non-enthusiast pinball player.

Interesting to hear how it compares to other machines.

For you peeps in the San Fernando Valley, there is a Rollercoaster Tycoon Pinball machine in the arcade at the Winnetka Pacific Theatres in Chatsworth, CA.

Lord G,

The height of the drop targets can be adjusted from underneath the playfield. I suspect (like you said) the middle target is sticking above the playfield a little bit in the down position. The manual should have a diagram of the target assembly, and identify how to adjust them. If you can't figure it out, I can email you a service bulletin (from Stern) that explains the procedure. It might also be something as simple as the machine leaning just a little bit to the right, causing the ball hang. Take a level, and see if the top of the playfield is in balance. If not, you can adjust the back legs to get it in sync.

Also, about the comment that RCT "is one of the worst machines" ever made: I certainly don't agree with that. It's not my favorite, but it is fun to play. The rules aren't as deep as some games (like The Simpsons, or Twilight Zone), but it has some fun modes, and a pretty neat wizard mode (Park Tycoon). I like the selection of shots, and the Rocket Coaster shot provides a neat visual.

I'm jealous, but at least I have my Twilight Zone to go home to. :)

Pat: Those drop targets might need to just be worked in a little since they're new.

Also, while you need to clean the play surface more in the long run, using Pledge makes it really fast, especially if you put it on the balls.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

The level was the first thing I thought of. It was a tad off, not enough to really effect play, but I adjusted it to pretty much perfect. My next guess was it just had to "settle in" there were a few questionable things happening that first night, but as we played they all seem to have worked themselves out except for the problem I mentioned. I'll give it another day or two and maybe get under there and lower it if it's still hanging there.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I think you're nailed it spot on, Jerry. It fun, but not complex. This works perfectly for us. I'm not much of a player myself, my wife doesn't have the time the rest of us do to play and my daughter is 5. It's something we can actually all enjoy together.

Pledge on your balls? Yikes.

Does anyone remember the old Cyclone pinball machine? That one was great. Sometimes the new technology isn't all that. Cyclone just had some fun targets and ramps. I could play it for hours.

A non-coaster machine I always enjoyed was "The Addams Family".

Maaaaaaamoooooossssshhhhhhkkkkkaaaaa!

I've played it and thought it was ok. I tried replaying it a couple of times and my opinion hasnt changed much. If any Columbus buzzer is interested it's located in the BW3's on Bethel.
Its also at the BW3 in Kent too. I really enjoy the new Mars Attacks (or something like that) pinball. I can't describe it really, but it seems to take up less space than the tradition pinball machines. Others I enjoyed were World Cup Soccer, Addams Family, Star Trak: TNG, a few from old movies. I remember playing one a few years ago where you had extreme type sports to finish, a name comes to mind like Jeremy McGrath. There's been so many.

DOes anyone remember (maybe they still do) a giant pinball game in the main arcade at CP? I think it actually had a cue ball or the size of one inside. I never played it because it was a dollar for one play.

Yup! They had one of those giant pinball machines at Knott's too. The balls were made out of wood and it was kind of hard to hit anything since the flippers weren't the greatest. More of a novelty then anything. Still, I'd love to see one of those again. And along those lines, Hyperball as well. Although it was more of a shooting gallery game then a pinball machine I guess.
The giant pinball machine was Hercules. There is still one in the Penny Arcade at the MN State Fair and I usually go every year and it was always there every year so I'd assume you'll find it there this year as long as they can keep it working I don't think it will go anywhere.
A bit of trivia: The Addams Family had one of the largest production runs of any pinball machine in history because it was so popular. It was designed by Pat Lawlor, the same guy who did RCT pinball.

I wish CP would keep their Hercules machines working! Those are a blast to play with a friend, each person with their own flipper.

Another fun machine to look out for at CP is a Medieval Madness in the arcade near Mean Streak. It needs a little work, but it's playable.
