Has anyone ridden Georgia Scorcher?

Is it a good ride? From pictures it looks very intense, kind of like Vortex at PGA.

Well, personally, I haven't ridden Vortex, but Scorcher is my Favorite B&M Stand up. Its not very intense and does some neat turns and aerobatics. But King Cobra is still my baby.
GA Scorcher is a longer ride than Vortex, and I found it to be (like other SFoG rides) refreshingly free of mid-course braking.  A great mid-size B&M, I consider it to be the Talon/B:TR of Stand-ups.  Compact layout, great capacity, fast, quiet, and excellent choices for their respective parks.

Alright start the tape recorder! I am declaring Scorcher as my favorite B&M period! I enjoyed it more than some Arrows and all other B&M's. And this is from a guy that loves King Cobra to death. The design is outstanding and the ride is flawless. Gatorwoodie couldn't have said it better!

It is an extremely smooth, yet full of surprising elements, such as a sudden banked tilt and a helix hovering only a couple feet over a large pile of jagged rocks.  One of my favorite rides.

Is it the only B&M looper with a straight drop?

I had the pleasure of riding it in the rain at the IAAPA gig last November. Pretty decent 2-train ride, without any brakes or dead spots. It is a great welcome to the entrance to the park. Come to think of it, that was a nice park, just we only saw it at night, and it was raining. I know we missed alot of great stuff.
SFMW Maniac87 asked: Is it the only B&M looper with a straight drop?

Nope, SFMW Medusa has a straight first drop, so does Wildfire.  However, if you mean straight right off the lift, then there's uperman at WBMW Madrid (7 inversions in one block, whoo!)

About Scorcher...I just got back from Atlanta, rode Scorcher again.  I rode it last June and proclaimed it my least fav B&M.  Now that I have ridden all B&M's in the US, it's my second least fav, I prefer Scorcher to Vortex at Carowinds.  This sounds like I dislike the ride...I don't, in fact I think it's great.  It's just that the standup's are my least fav B&M, and this particular one doesn't stack up to the intensity of the others.

Nitro, Legend, and IOA. Is there anything better?

Rode it at IAAPA last year as well. Very smooth. Very fast. A little short, but overall a great ride.
Scorcher has some nice airtime in the back seat. It's my favorite stand up.
Best stand up EV-ER. More re-rideable and fun than Mantis, Chang, or ANY of the Togo's...

It does look pretty similar to PGA's Vortex. Question: What does it do after the corkscrew? Just curious as to why the similar layout would be over 1000' longer than it's older brother?
SFMW Maniac87 : Other B&M coasters with straight drops are the 3 (soon to be 4) hypers, Oblivion, and G5, thought there may be some I'm forgetting. Scorcher is an excellent standup. Very enjoyable. Isn't Vortex basically a modified Iron Wolf? (or mirrored clone?)

I think Iron Wolf is much larger.

Yeeee Haaawwww!
janfrederick:  After the corkscrew, the ride forms a figure 8 by taking a highly banked, tight, left curve over the lift hill, and then dips down twisting the train back upright now heading back under the lifthill and back up into a surprisingly swift twist to the right, and now soaring back down on your side into the banked helix, REALLY close to the rocks.  Then the train twists upright and heads up into the left banked curve into the brake run, slows down and takes a 180 degree turn leading into the station.

Sounds really twisted?  IT IS!  I love this ride, especially in the back, there's tons of air.

Don't Mantis and Chang have straight drops?
Wasn't terribly impressed when I rode at IAAPA, but it wasn't bad either.  Definitely a shorter, smaller scale ride than something like Riddler's Revenge (my favorite stand-up) and Mantis/Chang.
Yes, Mantis and Chang both have straight drops, as does Kraken. Forgot about those.

Chang and Kraken have straight ramps, to be more correct. ;)

The Scorcher is one of the best coasters in the park.  When I first saw it I didnt think that it would be that good.  I was wrong.  This is one of the best coasters in the South.
Actually he means the Georgia Scorcher is the only B&M with a straight lift and a straight drop with no turns.  Mantis, Chang, and Kraken have a turn before the drop.
