Happy Birthday To The Beast

I was reading the Rollback and discovered that today is The Beast's birthday. It opened in 1979 on this date, so I guess that makes it 24. I just wish I could get over to PKI and ride it today.
Whats up with the Beast's new brakes? It doesn't have the long rails anymore. The new ones kinda suck.

OrientExpress, I respectfully and completly disagree. First off I have a hard time feeling a single trim on the first part of the ride and the brakes on the helix I hear them more then feel them. While Im sure they mean that it is harder to turn off the breaks at night :( it is otherwise a welcome improvement in my eyes

It is my personal belief that Lesourdsville Lake is closed for 2003. I'll let you know if anything is announced.

I ment first season with the new brakes. The first season ever would have been crazy. The longest wooden coaster in the world!

That means next year is its 25th birthday. Are they planning anything special????

That means that the rollback is wrong because that's where I got my information.

The Rollback clearly indicates that press day for The Beast was Thursday, April 13, 1979; it also shows Friday, April 14, 1979 as the public opening day. I wonder if that was actually a season pass preview/dry-run day...but if Thursday was press day, that is consistent with the park's current procedures.

Maintainer of the Almanac or Rollback or whatever you want to call it. :)

The 13th was friday in 1979. A small media gathering was invited for friday morning. Friday night was specifically Media promotion attendees only.

The night really was a disaster. It was only about 40 degrees and raining, One train was running and all the restraints had to be opened with a key (Buzz Bars) It was about a three hour wait to ride but worth every second of it.

Chuck, who won preview tickets from Q102. and also reminds you that in 1979 KI barely had any Season Fan Base let alone SP SPECIALS.

The Beast is my favorite coaster. Never has there been a coaster to match the experience of that ride at night.

All who think Mean Streak needs a match taken to it say I.

Happy Birthday? To what? The Beast is no longer "the beast." the real Beast wasn't loaded with trims, back when the flat sections were actually exciting. Now it's just overhyped and overrated. Maybe someday they'll let the Beast out of it's cage.
