Hall of Presidents going dark for rehab, addition of 44th president

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

To make room for a new, robotic version of the 44th president of the United States, Disney will close the 37-year-old Hall of Presidents after today for an extended refurbishment. The show will stay shuttered for more than eight months so Disney can update the hall's aging light, sound, mechanical, projection and show systems.

I can't even tell you how disappointed I am. This is one of the things I was really looking forward to Diana seeing on her first visit next month.

Perhaps they can make the presidents looking around less creepy though.

Yeah, that's always the bummer with renovations at year-round parks. You never know who might be making their once-in-a-lifetime visit during that time and then end up missing something like this.

Maybe you guys will get to see it next time, though.

I always considered the Hall of Presidents the MOST predictable to go down. Every 4 years or so for a few months to do general rehab and add/update the president. Compare this to some arbitrary closings like the Haunted Mansion and the upcoming Space Mountain for several months to a year.

Yeah, but if it's the only time you're going to visit, it's disappointing regardless of the reason or how often it occurs. Now if they have scheduled maintenance, you can plan around it, of course. Obviously the 4 to 8 year deal makes sense.

But, still, if it's your only chance to see it and it isn't available, that's a bummer. It's not an actionable bummer, but it's still a bummer. :)

I've visited Disneyland when both Haunted Mansion AND Pirates were in rehab once. That really sucked. My last to Disney World had Haunted Mansion, Rockin Roller Coaster, and the ride in the Epcot ball(wife's favorite) all closed. I can't say I'd be too disappointed by Hall of Presidents being closed.

Certain victory.

It IS at least nice that Disney makes an effort to let people know about the maintenance plans. obviously "unplanned maintenance" is something every park goes through.Would be nice to have some "diversity" in the HoP...taking NOTHING for granted here in the state that sent G-Dub to the White House, LOL... ;)

Hmmmm....so the 44th president leads to the (temporary) closing of another business. Bush economics strikes again. Perhaps Disney can ask for a $700 billion bailout before he leaves office.

When I was last there in late 2006, the irony was that the little Bushatronic speech was completely counter to the things he recently had been enacting as policy.

So, how exactly would it be Bush's fault if he is not the 44th President? That will likely be Barrack Obama, but could be John McCain. I know people love to blame Bush for everything, but let it go.

While we're at the political topic, why not a blinky Palin emoticon? A yellow face with that hair cut, a pastel colar, and those glasses...

There's only so much you can do with Nixon.

^LOL! Since someone mentioned Futurama earlier..."Nixon's baaaaaack!" :)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

I've visited Disneyland when both Haunted Mansion AND Pirates were in rehab once.

I can top that. I was there when Indy was down for a regular refurb, Space was down for its 2-year overhaul, and Thunder had not come back up from having killed a guest.

Why is it that IOA seems to close Ripsaw Falls at exactly the same time every year, namely when I'm there? Jerks.

You just convinced me to put off my next Disney vacation until after the attraction re-opens. ;) ;) (Winkies added to emphasize that nothing I ever say on this site should be taken seriously and just represents a poor attempt at humor - admittedly a very poor attempt at that. :) )

Are they gonna add overalls to Jimmy Carter and put Regan in a coffin?

Probably because you go around the same time every year during the "off-season". Next time you need to go in the summer :-P
