Gum

Yeah. There has got to be over 50 dollors in pennies alone around the station at The Beast. Don't people realize that pennies are money. I belive that, if somone gathered up all of the pennies that have been thrown in the trash over the years, you could paydown a substaial protion of the national debt? And yes, I think that gum is very anoying, but if you can prove you smokem you should be allowed to chew it.

Where would we be without the rumor mill?
The most disgusting wall o' gum I have ever seen was at BGT on tidal Wave. During the first part of the you are lazily going down a "river" and you go under a tunnel. Right before you go into the tunnel there is a wall with hundreds of blobs of every single kind of gum imaginable. It is really disgusting I hope BGT cleans it up!

I saw a LOT of gum walls this summer, and most of them were indeed mosaics of gum. Add the heat, and at SFoG the bees, and you've got a not so pleasing situation.

As for SFA, the vandals started those scratches on the S:ROS walls on OPENING WEEKEND! That floored me that people would wait for a brand new coaster and already start defacing it.

As for confiscating gum, you'd have to take away pens & markers too, if you really wanted to combat park vandalism. I think if people were more vocal about their displeasure at others for doing this, things could change. Also, carefully placed video cameras (dummy ones even) with signage that says "you are being watched" would greatly diminish the vandalism.

The final thing is for park officials to look at their high vandalism areas and re-think their queues, etc. IOA had a terrible grafitti problem in the first few months, but their team kept changing things so that it became harder and harder to do.

It's sad that this has to happen at all, but not everybody has the "love" for these places that we do.

Wild One, you dont have to apologize to me. I've seen it several places around the net. Some ppl just aren't used to seeing us folks with a little melanin in our skin out anywhere, and assume that the only place we can be is the ghetto. It disappoints and saddens me, but I know your not the one so it doesnt bother me. Now what's funny is no one calls Walt's Disney's world "White Disney's World" or something stupid like that.

Anyway, more on topic, I have yet to catch a gummer. If I saw one, I wouldn't yell, scream or preach, I would simply ask them "Why?" It's simple, but effective (it's worked with other types of litterers)
Everytime I'm in line for Face/Off I see gum stuck on the supports of the coaster. There is a fence and you can't even touch the coaster. So here's my question. How does that gum get on the supports? The people chewing them must have good aim and big lungs to spit that far and make the gum stick on there. Sick, ain't it?

Can you take me higher? (CREED)
There's really no need to get really upset about this subject (unless you work there or ever put your hand into it). There's nothing that can be done. Or is there? My ideas:
Electric fences
Security gaurds every two feet
Dogs trained to track down delinqient chewers

Until they devolop a lubricant to put on walls that makes the gum slide right off, I'm content to stand back (way back) and admire these walls of gum as a monumet to gums past...:)

Fear the Wrath of the Phantom!
I seriously e-mailed a complaint to cedar point about all the gum around the coasters and how they never clean it off and i requested that they have someone clean it off this winter :)

Its not the skin color, its the attitude of some people that earn parks their nicknames. The dummy cameras might work, as would scraping the walls every once in a while. What would it take? One person going through the line with a putty knife and scraping away the wads they reach. And I do have a stake in this. I have sat on gum pieces several times at various parks and i can tell you that it is really nasty.

It is pretty nasty. I saw a lot of people doing this in the line for Mantis at CP. They threw gum at the supports, threw money in the water (not too god-aweful) and on the railing. It's sick. Plus if you're in the line for Top Gun at PKI, you will the big logo of the ride covered with gum. Everywhere is. I even heard people complain about it. I just wish people had more common courtesy and respect for a park. Not to litter or any of that bad stuff. It makes the park a heck of a lot nicer.

To all of you who have ever stood in line for Iron Dragon or Mantis at CP, you've seen the water.

And I thought the gum problem was bad.

To think how many coins, peices of gum, lost children(j/k), ect. those fish in that brown water have eaten (or been pelted with)....EWWWW!

Well actually some parks DO encourage people to stick gum on a certain pole. Not sure if it's still there, but SDC had a designated pole known as the "Gum Pole" (original, no?) with a sign and everything. That thing was almost completely covered in gum by season's end. YUCk, hate to have to clean it off for the next season (hmm wonder if they just got another pole?)

D
That sounds neat~a gum pole~smart idea! Hey did anyone notice all of the writing on the poles by the Millennium Force queues? I think They were light poles but I dont quite remember they were right before you go into the loading station I know that much~well the coaster is brand new!! I think that is sick when people do to stuff like that and then the park doesn't paint over it!
It's a challange. Like a spitting contest. What we need is paint that gum can't stick to.
Ignorance!!!!!!!!!!
