Guitar Freaks

I know people on here play GF as well as DDR. So here's my plight: I just moved to Orlando from Boston, and I can't for the life of me find a GF machine!!! I've tried searching on DDR Freaks, but it seems that there's not a single machine anywhere in FL! I've tried Googling for GF related sites or machine locators, and all i get are broken links to a site called "GF Central" and some stuff in Japanese. FOR GOD'S SAKE HELP ME!! I'm addicted to this game and need to know where to play it!

Has anyone bought it for PSX? As far as I can tell, it was only released for PS1, and only up to the 3rd mix was released. Do they still release current versions of the game in Japan? I'd gladly buy a Japanese PS2 if that's the case. Short of buying an arcade machine from Japan, can anyone think of any ways I can play? I'd even be willing to chip in if an arcade wanted to buy one (if anyone knows any arcade owners around here). PLEASE!

Thanks.

O god.....I live in santa cruz, cali and its just as hard to find a GF machine. There are at least 4 DDR machines at the local boardwalk (SCBB) but not one GF machine. Even at PGA, nothing. I enjoy this game just as much, if not more than DDR, so I don't know why its so unpopular. Yeah, sorry I can't help you out there.
If theres no machines I would suggest taking to one of the managers at a local arcade with a good DDR sceen. Maybe print out some pictures and info about the machine and give it to a manager.

Or, you can buy a Japanese PS2($250-300)

DrumMania/Guitar Freaks 3/4th mix($60)

and try to find an offical Konami controller,or buy a 3rd party one for like 15 bucks.

Thanks for the info, NC Kid. My qualm about spending that much money is that it's only the 3rd mix. Since the arcade machines are up to 11th mix (I've only been lucky enough to play 8th), this leads me to believe that they stopped supporting the game on PS2. I guess asking arcade managers couldn't hurt. Heck, I'd play enough to probably finance the thing.

As for the game's apparent "unpopularity," I understand it's definitely a cult-following thing, as is the case with most music games. But the arcade I used to go to put the game in a prominent place, and every time i was playing enough people would walk buy and drop a few coins just out of sheer curiosity, so it can't be that bad an investment (especially if it's next to the DDR machine).

So who else has thoughts on the subject? There have to be more than two people who like this game. Does anyone know some active GF forums so i don't keep clogging this one?

I like it. Unfortunately there's only one machine within 200 miles of my house. Fortunately, it's right down the street from me. ;)

However it's a 1st mix and has maybe 10 songs.

I don't know why Konami is so hesitant to release music games in the U.S. I'd buy every single one of them, if I didn't have to go to the trouble and risk of ordering a Japanese PS2.

Well, I did find a bit of a solution to my situation. The Percussion Freaks machine at XS Orlando is back (did i mention i like PF as much as GF?). When I saw it, i nearly fell down before it in genuflect. The only problem? There's no stool! I asked one of the employees about it, and he looked at me like i was crazy. Then when he saw that i really was, he was nice enough to let me move one of the bar chairs. Unfortunately, it was way too tall and wow did it hurt my behind! Plus it's in a tight location so i was basically blocking the way, and people kept bumping into my chair.

The only other issue, of course, is that it's a US 3rd mix. Does anyone know how to change the difficulty on a US machine? I couldn't figure it out, which meant that I was trapped into playing select songs that fell withing my difficulty range. One plus: It did have P.P.R.! The bartender probably hates that song by now. Oh well, maybe he'll complain and they'll move the machine to a better spot.

Regardless, i was just excited and thought people might want to know (because in my fantasy world people actually care about the game as much as i do). Kudos to the staff for being cool about the chair!
