Good move for MOA. I hope they get Phase II passed.
They can't call it "Waterpark of America" thanks to the hotel across 77 from the mall.

Wonder what they will call it.

How about "Waterpark of Mall of America"? :)

My guess is that it would be called Great Wolf.*** This post was edited by Chitown 7/29/2007 12:43:32 AM ***

This announcement did surprise me given there is already a large waterpark very close to MOA. I think it's great to give consumers options, and the competition could be good for keeping prices in check. The Phase II expansion is facing a tough battle given that it requires some tax payer money for infrastructure. It did not get the support it needs in the last session of the state legislature.
Pawlenty shot down the infrastructure funding for the mall, but it part of an omnibus spending bill. So it's hard to tell if he was opposed to the financing in and of itself, or the other spending tacked to the bill as well..

Here's a Pioneer Press article about it where a WPOA official said he ain't worried. Honestly, he shouldn't be. If Phase II leads to more tourism, there will be more people showing up to book rooms. At worst, they'll only have to drop their rates on a waterpark that's already been paid off.
