Great Bear/ Talon

One of my favorite memories of B&M noise, was when my friend Shannon and I visited Great Adventure for Frightfest 03'. She attempted to talk to someone on her cellphone as the train on Medusa was making its way through the zero-g roll, and she's an enthusiast! I just shook my head and laughed, because there's no way she could understand anything being said–on either end:)

If you want a somewhat frightnening experience, go up to the fence near the lockers by Talon where the train makes that low swooping turn. Get as close as you can to the fence and feel the wind as the train flies by–and barely makes a noise.

Nothing worse than standing in a two hour line and listening to a DJ try to knock out the B&M roar. Or trying to eat on Cedar Point's midway with Raptor roaring over head. I like the nice quiet B&Ms as of late.

Great Bear, IMO, needs the ROAR. I mean, its the great bear & Bears Roar. I like the Roar for that ride. I'm a person who likes variety & sometimes i like the sound-dampened coaster. They both have their qualities.
That roar definitely changed Comet Hollow!

Yep.... Themeing !

Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions !
Yes it roars, and gets a lot of attention from the people in the Comet queue. But why paint a ride called Great Bear in purple, fushcia and yellow? How I hate that color scheme!

So does M:TR roar or is it sound-dampened? :)
Sorry, but the question just begged to be asked.

^ I think it was supposed to be more of an "astronomical" paint job, so that it fits in with.....ummmmm....the meteorological theme of Lightning Racer? ;)

edit: Great Bear I mean, not commenting on Moosh's paint job... :~x

^Great Bear=Big Dipper=Constilation but its more to do with the near by Comet then the built 2 years after Lightning Racer ;).

The paint job is supposed to make it look "space chique."

RGB, it's because Great Bear is about a constellation, not an actual bear! From my dictionary–Great Bear, the constellation Ursa Major; it's seven brightest stars form the Big Dipper.

It is confusing, but they named it that because of the seven elements on Great Bear. What I don't get, is that I've looked at Ursa Major from several angles, and I don't get the Bear reference.

I don't know if you have the map from the year that GB opened, but the illustration inside of people riding with the nightsky background makes a lot of sense with the colorscheme. As always, your mileage may vary. *** Edited 6/28/2006 4:43:40 AM UTC by Intamin Fan***

Isn't Great Bear painted gray and black? I wish it was more "astronomical"-looking!
OK, the big dipper / ursa majoris relationship (Big Dipper is the bears behind, to which the paws are added bottom right, and a -sort of- head to the right.

You want to hear a loud B&M try "Batman The Ride" at SFGrtAdv. It is almost impossible to have a conversation on Nitro's line when Batman is going up the lift hill!! :(

Even Raptor's lift hill can get annoying (especially if you're on the ride!)

I personally like the quietness of Talon, Fire, Ice and Hydra. If you want to hear the B&M Roar, just sit in the front seat. You can hear it humming off the rails there.
