Great Bear

How does Great Bear stack up compaired to other B&M's? It looks cool but doesnt get that much attention.
The reason Great Bear doesnt get much "atttention" (as you put it) is because by many enthusiast-driven opinions, IT SUCKS! It's not very tall, nor very fast, nor very intense, nor very 'loopy'.

But what it is is a mildly thrilling coaster that gives a smooth and enjoyable ride; right at about the threshold of tolerance for HersheyPark's family atmosphere. Even though it's not the "-est" anything, I like it well enough. The only thing I *dont* like about it is that it pretty much 'limps home' and just meanders back to the station after the flat spin.

But the helix off the lift is marvelous. So much so that almost all my RCT inverts have that move (or a reverse-Immelman of the lift :))

It first time I rode it I hated it. But after many rides during coaster con last in the back row I think more of it. It's a great ride with awesome foot choppers. My only complaint it the ride just ends. It does a boring turn...a final helix (possibly through SDL's loop) would have been a great way to end the ride.
I agree after the last inversion its just an S bend into the station...I agree a helix through the loop of the SDL would have been the ideal way to finish the ride. I had heard that B&M had proposed a longer ride, but the park didn't want to alter their monorail. Has anyone else heard that? I think its a pretty decent ride. I like it better than Talon and Batman the ride....
I like a lot more rides than Batman: The Ride

Yea B&M only got half way done cause they were working so hard on their Floorless that they didn't have time to make it good so they let arrow finish the design

I'm one of the few and proud who like Great Bear, granted is not as intense as the bigger inverteds but its still a fun ride.  I love that helix at the top leading to the first drop.  Its a great ride and I love the layout and the station!

I actually happen to think that Great Bear is a great ride, but I've never met a B&M I didn't like.

My page  My other page  And my coaster page
I rode it the year it opened, by that time I had been on many B&M'S, I loved it,especially dropping in to that helix then the rest of the ride!!  I was telling my friend at a party.
I really like Great Bear since it is the only inverted coaster I have ever been on.  I heard over the summer that supposedly this coaster is only half of a coaster.  The park supposedly did not want the whole thing since there was no room for it.  This is only what I heard second hand from someone that was told this so I don't know exactly how accurate this is.
My wife and I rode GB for the first time this summer and loved it.  It would easily be the best ride in the park if not for LR.  Its a little short, but I love the helix after the lift, and the elements that follow.  Its seems like it keeps you hanging up ther above the pond forever.  Its a unique feeling and a very unique roller coaster.
I thought the Great Bear was an awesome ride.  I have to agree with Dan on this coaster.  Sure there's other ones that are taller, faster, and longer, but it's still a very cool coaster.  I do have a sweet spot for the ride though, it was my first invert, in fact, my first B&M.  I don't care what anyone else says about it, Great Bear is just a fun coaster.  What are coasters supposed to be about?  Fun.

Great Bear may be my favorite Invert. I've never thought about in really. I guess I would rate it 2nd after Alpengeist and just before Batman:TR.

The Great Bear is just as intense as any of the other inverts, it's just not quite as long. BIG DEAL!

Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions

I thought it was a good ride it was very short but the helix at the top of the drop was real neat and the straight away before the immlean (how ever you speel that) was cool becuase you come real close to the ground (or at least it seems like that) also the order in which elements happen in order , makes this ride stand out to me becuase it differs from the other B&M inverts out there.
I totally agree with 2Hostyl. The coaster's ending is very dissappointing but the elevated helix is fantastic. You pull some real heavy g's.
I love the ride, but I find myself laughing every time I see the onride picture right there at the finishing brakes. The Most Boring Part Of The Ride, and they take your picture. Hehe. Still a great ride though.
