Great America to get twisting Intamin Impulse coaster

Posted | Contributed by d7droog52

In a Chicago Daily herald article it was reported that at last night's Gurnee Zoning Board of Appeals meeting that Six Flags Great America will get a Superman: Ultimate Escape clone, like the one at Six Flags Ohio (known as an "impulse" coaster).

Read all about it from The Daily Herald.

Finally!
The Second Coaster is announced!
Wow, now three inverts in one park.
As for why go to SFO: Honestly, I think SFO is a smaller and less impressive park than GA but the stuff they do have (IE: The Villain *g*) make the park worth hitting...not to mention the lines for S:UE are actually fairly short there (non-existant) if you go the right time of the year. I think SFGAmer was quite smart in putting in these rides...like numerous people have said: small footprint, impressive looking, inexpensive to build...it's an all win situation for the park. The capacity is definitely an issue at Gurnee but such is life in a big chain park outside a major metroplex. Cloning of rides *does* suck overall but I guess the moral is if you don't like clones don't go to Six Flags...they're the only chain that does it with the big rides and in some cases it's beneficial (Medusa on East and West comes to mind...the trio of Superman: ROS) so peeps can ride the new biggest and best with less travel. It's all about publicity and the way a ride *looks* to the major park and the cash they pull in seems to speak much louder than any enthusiast complaints about cloning ever could to such a large corporation.
The people that have concerns of new coasters going up isnt so much the noise of the coaster itself. They complain more of the people that scream and yell on them which is more aggravating. But guess what? Gurnee usually always approves new rides for the park because it is a huge revenue goldmine for the village. These 2 new coasters might not be clones. They will probably modify them a bit from the others.

"DONT FIGHT IT, RIDE IT",,,,RAGING BULL
I bet they wil be clones. I think the days of SFGAm being a prototype park may be over.

"Brak presents the Brak show starring Brak!!!"
I disagree with that...As a matter of fact, if you followed Wintrode's remarks at the approval meeting for the first coaster, he indicated that the Invertigo's trains are still under development, and that they are indeed prototype. While I concede that these coasters may not be prototype to us as enthusiasts, they may be prototype in terms of trains, actual heights (super invertigo), etc, to the general public. You know what would be really cool for an invertigo? If they could develop Stealth-like trains for one? That would certainly bring out the enthusiasts in droves.

By the way, with three inverted coasters, is that a new park record for inverteds? Just wondering. As for Great America being a leader in terms of getting the newest and most innovative rides, Brak, I agree that this is probably over. But don't count Great America out. In spite of the many changes over the year, it still packs in the crowds. And let's give Raging Bull its due - it's one heck of a ride!

i went to great america today and jeesh the lines were huge. i was askin the employees if the park got any track or any thing for the new coasters and they didnt even know what i was talkin about 2 said they are taken out sky whirl and haybaler for a mr freeze. i was like ok. and any ways the whirlagig is still runnning and theres no sign of whats goin in next year besides the sky trek tower bein torn down and the haybaler bein like gone except for the line and the building.
As for the issue of clones, how many Vertigo's have been installed in the states alone. 30, more? Clones are good for parks because they get a proven ride. I also agree that it's great not to travel half away across the country to ride a coaster. As for CP not having a clone, what do you call the Pinfari built Wildcat?
Can't be 30. Maybe 20, I think 30 is worldwide.
I've got a *few* comments to add:

First regarding why go to SFO: I thought the very same thing. I mean, Villian is good no doubt, but it rides very similar to GAm's Viper. I guess though you could still go there for B:KF and Big Dipper.

Second regarding noise concerns. If you dont live near a park, you are really in no position to comment about local concerns. And as far as people just selling their house and leaving, who's gonna buy it? GAm has plenty of space so there is no *need* for them to buy it. And, as has already been pointed out, who would buy property by a park. It's a catch-22.

On the capacity issue, I doubt that adding the two coasters is going to have much more effect on the crowds as adding just one new coaster. So while the lines for these coasters may be long, i would expect the other lines to drop a little.

As for the 3-trains on RB, most times they do run three. BUT I went there on a Sunday this august and they one ran two (coincidently, they only ran 2 on Shockwave as well...but all three on Demon hmmmm).

Finally, there are only 3 existing invertigos worldwide (PGA, PKI, SFA). You are thinking about the thousand and one boomerangs on the globe; simlar, but different.

---Six Flags Great America, the only park in the world where you can swing your feet on FOUR coasters!!!
I don't want be picky or anything, but you left out Hangman, at Liseberg Park in Sweden.
isnt there one called liek hangover or soem thing like that in europe? it was in one of the ace mags a few years ago i think it was the first one
These new coasters will be great for people who haven't already experienced the two types. For me, at least, the Raging Bull line may be shorter.
Yeah, But Great America I think will break a record next year. Isn't 3 inverts in 1 park the most? I think it is. Well anyways S:UE will be normally. But I heard ALOT of rumors on the other coaster. The Very first rumor I heard was that it MIGHT be a 90 degree lift hill. The other rumor I heard is that the trains are going to be 4 across. I think the 90 degree lift would be fun be I doubt it. I think we are getting 4 across train. Wouldn't that inprove the line at all. I think that would help the line go faster if they did it. But I could be wrong. We'll have to wait and see.
They will have three inverts. Batman, Two Face,
and S:ue. I rode it at sfo in october twice on
a Saturday and 23 times on a sunday. No lines whatsoever. The only line was for Knight Flight and that was because there was only one train
running.
