Great America will be transformed in 2008 starting with a new name -- California's Great America. Part of the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company's family of theme parks, California's Great America's new name signifies exciting new additions to the popular attraction as well as a 14 million dollar investment from the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company over the next two years.
Taking guests head-over-heels this season will be FireFall. This new thrill ride will take 40 brave riders to a height of 60 feet, then subject them to 360 degree vertical arcs as they twist, turn and spin through both fire and water effects. FireFall is manufactured by Huss of Germany and promises to be the hottest ticket in 2008.
In 2009, California's Great America will add to its roster of thrill rides a new world-class wooden coaster. This copious coaster will boast a lift of 104 feet and take riders on a two minute ride at 52 mph through a twisting first drop, low to the ground S-turn, and a high speed station fly-by! Designed by Great Coasters International, this ride promises to take coaster enthusiasts to new heights.

I'm jealous of all the CGII goodness other CF parks are getting. I hope to someday see one at CP...maybe in place of the aquatic stadium.
Having never been to any of the CA parks, is the "newly named Great America Theatre" a different venue than the IMAX? Just curious as Cedar Point's IMAX became the venue for their ice show.
Maybe that was one of those times where we saw a bunch of "drawing board ideas", but that it didn't come to fruition? Thinking it was back 2-3 years ago....hmmmm.
But, yeah for a new woodie.
I see several reasons for the 2009 anouncement:
1) The uncertainty with the 49'ers Staduim issue.
2) The dropping stock price.
3) To build excitement for the ride during the construction ( if it is going wherer the whizzer and Imax building were, that is at the entrance of the park, it abit noticable)
I'm not optimistic that there will ever be another Giant Top Spin.
I second that. There are some design flaws inherent to the Giant Top Spin rides. Unless they're completely re-engineered from the ground up, I don't see them keeping it in their product line. Seeing the small demand for them in the first place, they'd be better off working on something else.
Here is to hopig that the new rides going to California's Great America will be only the tip of the iceberg. The announcement I think was more or less a statement to those that want to see the stadium built there. As the sister park to my home park, I want to see CGA succeed. And I think Cedar Fair is actually playing ball the right way with this park. If I must say that I think the wooden coaster from GCII is quite a good replacement for the long since gone Whizzer. I still cant see the stadium being a good thing for Cedar Fair unless the stadium builders also build a parking garage and IMO it would have to be built before the stadium construction starts just to ease on the parking woes that would be incurred from the construction. I am sure the construction would problem eat up more parking spaces than the actual building will once completed. I could see the park and stadium co-existing if the parking issues were somehow mitigated.
