Great America - Wednesday August 15

Half-way through our awesome "Drive the Pacific Coast" vacation, we hooked up with some family and spent an afternoon at Great America.

General comments: Nice, clean park. Surprisingly, it seems that all of the Paramount theming is intact. Even the parking lot signs direct guests to "Paramount Great America". It's totally surrounded by high tech offices -- I wonder how many Silicon Valley geeks take roller coaster lunch breaks?

Demon: Double-loop, double corkscrew, track runs through a giant skull. Cool!

Invertigo: An excellent ride. It seems to be quite reliable. (My previous attempts to variants of this at Magic Mountain and Kings Island were thwarted by breakdowns.)

Grizzly: It was my turn to watch the kid while my wife and her cousin rode Grizzly. STO = painfully slow lines. They waited over half an hour and the ride was not that thrilling.

Top Gun: The best ride in the park. We waited 4 or 5 trains for the front row. The trees around this invert really add to the thrill.
Vortex: 4-train wait for the very front. Not bad for a stand-up coaster.

Survivor: The Ride. My wife and RCDB don't consider this a roller coaster, but IMO, it has a track with hills, so why not? We had a blast on this ride. All Disk-O installations are good, but the extended track makes it even better.
