Great Adventure, 4/20/13

B&M's good, but nothing beats air time on a wood coaster. Look at my track list. I have some 3 stars and all my 4 or 5 star rides in order by favorites. (1,2, and some 3 star rides aren't in order.) It will show you that I have a different perception on rides than some. (Even though I have Voyage and MF 1 and 2)

Yup, and that's more fun than most B&M's I've been on. I'm being honest. It's good to like different stuff... It would stink if we all liked the same coasters just as much as one another.

I accept that you like it, I just don't understand why. I also don't understand why bronies exist.

^^ I'm still pissed I missed the Chiller era.

I had one chance to ride Chiller and missed it. It was in 2007 during the last few weeks it was open and I wasn't sure if I was ready for it or no (I also didn't try Kingda Ka that day either) and I thought maybe next year.

I had a chance to ride Chiller but my wife didn't want to ride with me. So I went into the queue and waited, waited, and not knowing how long the line would be given the previous experiences at the park I decided not to bother.

I only got one lap, and it was on the Robin side. What I'd give to experience that excellence again. The inclined barrel roll was a special kind of crazy. I wish I could have experienced the Batman side.

I think Skull Mountain feels crazy fast for a junior coaster, and that tiny little drop from the back seat actually ends up being quite the little stomach swooper. I kind of question their need to have three junior coasters, but I would never say get rid of SM. I'd say the mine train (I hate that mine train).

I don't argue terminology, because I'm not well versed in it and everything is open to interpretation. But I do not consider Skull Mountain a junior coaster. I consider Blackbeard a Family/Junior coaster. I consider Road Runner railway a Kiddie coaster.

And as far as removing the Runaway Mine Train, bunky? BLASPHEMY, I say!!! :) That's the only coaster at GAdv on whichI can't keep my hands up for the entire circuit.

I guess I should have said that Skull Mountain COULD be considered a junior coaster. I don't think I could lump it in with a small wooden regular coaster like Rolling Thunder, but it's not a children's ride. Hence, junior coaster.

One cannot keep their hands up on the mine train because one will be smashed into the sides of the very uncomfortable cars, Mike. :P

True, and that's the reason I can't, but you say that like it's a BAD thing :)

I guess I worded that poorly. It's the challenging more than the repeating. You're baiting.

Instead of just saying you like Skull Mountain, you toss out the "better than B&M" line. How is that even relevant? B&M has nothing to do with the conversation.

Same thing in this thread. Instead of just replying to the story, you throw in the comment about Montezooma being better.

It's not cute or funny. It's taking litle jabs hoping to get a reaction. It's exactly the snarky thing Carrie was talking about in another thread. Remove the lines I pointed out from each of those posts and you have a sane response. Keep them in and it's some kind of weird pathological thing that you can't seem to not do.

You're certainly the master of the passive-aggressive, "Who? Me?" reply. Most of us around here don't try to pretend we're not being assholes.

Am I suddenly a nice guy if I start peppering crap about hugs into my vemon-tongued arguments?

Neither are you. But where it's worse is that you try to pretend you're not hoping to push buttons with your comments.

You give lip service about getting along and harmony and stuff, but I'd list you in the top 3 or 4 most aggressive and disagreeable people on the site...and the B&M and Montezooma thing are perfect examples. It's such negativity and you disguise it as just the opposite.

You're more than entitled to an opinion and more than welcome to express it. You're not entitled to troll.

You can't challenge someone by saying something sucks and follow it up with, "but you can't fight back because it's good that we all like different things." However, you do it so frequently and consistently that I suspect you don't get why it's wrong - which is why I'm here to point out how it can come across to others.

This touches on something I was going to post earlier. This is a shielded attempt at doing the coaster wars thing. Instead of explaining what you love about Skull Mountain, the post comes out with it's better than B & M. Which is followed immediately with the defense.

It comes across as, "my favorite is better than this favorite, but you can't blame me for saying so because it's good to like different things. (Though your favorite still sucks compared to mine.)

Am I the only one here who got to ride both the Batman and Robin side of Chiller?

I only got one ride on Batman because it was harldy ever operational but it was awesome. That tophat was epic.

I rode the Robin side 5 or 6 times and it was even better than the Batman side.

It was the one coaster I would ride every single trip to the park even before I knew too much about coasters. That was an awesome ride and I miss it like crazy. The Dark Knight is not a worthy replacement compared to what used to be there.

And on a side note, that was my favorite section of the park. I hope they open it again someday. There are still some really cool buildings back there. :(

Thanks to the side-by-side duo of Nitro and Batman-The Ride, that's probably my favorite section of any park.

I rode both sides of Chiller, once each, one year apart (Batman in 2001, Robin in '02). The other respective side was closed each day I was there. I preferred Batman because the top hat is great, and because I'm fairly indifferent about cobra rolls.

Nope.

I rode the Batman side way less than its counterpart, but I disliked Robin. Banged me around like a darn rag doll, it did.

And Dark Knight is not a worthy replacement..for ANYTHING.

If the Dark Knight was out doors it'd be terrible. Being indoors just makes it "Ridable".

I rode both sides with both restraint configurations multiple times. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I didn't get Chiller either. I mean, sure, it was a great launch and the zero-g roll was pretty decent, but I didn't think either side was anything to write home about. Batman's top hat was great, but Freeze's is just as good, if not better.

RE: Nitro - While maybe not the best coaster on the planet, Nitro is a great ride and high on my list. Why? Because of context. The context in which I've ridden it. Years ago, we used to hit up SFGAdv the Friday night before PPP. Low crowds, cool, foggy fall nights, and being on an "event" coaster trip with good friends and my future wife made Nitro a truly unique experience. Just about all of my rides are under those circumstances, which stand out as some of the great memories of my past. Turning the corner and diving away from the lights into the darkened woods is on a foggy night adds uniqueness that very few coasters can match. Great memories elevate its status for me.

GA is a park I've been meaning to get back to. It's been many years and I absolutely *have* to get on El Toro.

RE: Pop - I grew up in Chicago and called it "pop" all my life. But when I went to college in St Louis, you wouldn't believe the amount of flack I caught over it. Working at a movie theater with locals, they gave me such a hard time, you'd think it actually mattered. Funny thing is, if they hadn't said anything, I probably would have just gradually switched over without even realizing it. But instead they teased so much that I always made a point to say "pop" no matter what.

When customers would order a popcorn/drink combo, I'd hold up the drink cup and ask "what kind of pop do you want?" Most common response... "Buttered." Hahaha, morons!
