Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, New Jersey, USA
We made our first amusement park visit of the season to Great Adventure to get our Prestige passes processed and get a few rides on our favorite coasters. We got there shortly after opening, our passes scanned for parking with no issues.
Walking into the park you can see a lot of work has been put into making the park look fresh and clean. It was very Cedar Fair like the way everything looked well maintained, freshly painted with a lot of new signage. Very impressed considering how run down the park had gotten just before the merger.
Upon arrival in the park we went straight to Flash, and it hadn't opened yet. We walked onto the Justice League Ride since it's right next door. When we got off Flash still hadn't opened so we went Nitro.
Walked onto a one train wait for the 2nd row. Nitro still delivers, but not as intense as the more modern b&m hypers like Mako or Candymonium. This is a must ride every visit. Running two trains.
Stopped and got a drink with the all season drink plan(with cups.) So much better than carrying around that souvenir cup all day. I wished they'd done that years ago.
Jersey Devil was up next. Running two trains. We waited about 20 minutes for this, and it got a lot longer right after we got in line. We were in row 5 and 6. We both agreed it was better than the front. Really want a back row ride, but didn't want to wait in the longer line.
Walked right onto Skull Mountain. Running 2 trains. Nothing special but will ride when its a walk on. Walked over to the other side of the park after.
Runaway Mine Train. Two train operation. Its a classic with a few forceful pops of air. Running well.
Medusa line was down the steps so we skipped. It looked like one train operation and that's why we didn't stay.
El Toro had just opened so the we didn't have to wait long. About 3 train wait for row 11. They really had to staple me in to fit, and I hadn't had that problem the past few seasons. The track work is really noticeable in the 2nd half twistedness. It really smoothed it out. Our favorite ride in the park. Such a gem.
The ride operations were less than stellar, but with the light crowds it didn't detract from the day. Opening weekend they usually have bugs to work out and it was noticeable that Batman the ride, Joker, and Flash never opened while we were there.
The staff was also much more friendly than in previous years. Lots of smiles and we were impressed by the attitude shift of hearing thank you repeatedly from the staff. I can't remember how long its been that i remember the staff being that friendly.
We were walking back to the entrance and noticed Flash testing. We were going to use our skip the line but it never opened by the time we left just before 3pm. We were hoping to get a back row lap since we'd already gotten a front row ride.
Very impressed with the cleanliness of the park and we'll visit again in the fall.
