Gravity Group Presentation / Coaster Size

Posting this for two reasons in one. Neither of which may be very important.

I just stumbled across the presentation page on the Gravity Group website. ( http://www.thegravitygroup.com/styles_0.html ) - use the little arrows at the top to navigate through.

I'm not sure if there was any mention of it before but I found it entertaining and I liked the coaster renderings.

The second reason I mention it is that I seem to remember a discussion here at CB not too long ago about the size of coasters (woodies in particular) and whether bigger was better - how big was "big" and so forth. That thread popped immediately into my head when I saw that GG defines a large coaster as one that stands 85 feet or higher.

Again, no real point, just some things that caught my eye. Go check out their online presentation if you haven't seen it already.

Wow! Those renderings are impressive. Gravity Group is looking to be a very succesfull manufacturer.

How do you figure that? Have they actually sold a coaster?
Nope, their renderings just look cool. I'm a bit curious how their rides will turn out.

As of now, this company hasn't quite impressed me yet. But then again, I'm still waiting for their first coaster.

What are you smokin FP? of course they've sold a coaster, what do you think Timberhawk @ EV/WW is?

It's shaping up to be a great looking ride & should work wonders for the seattle market, anyone know what type of trains GG is gonna use in this coaster? are they gonna use PTC's GCI flyers or are they gonna create a totally custom in house train for this ride?

I was under the impression that Timberhawk came from "S&S Custom Air Powered 4D Mine Trains, Inc."

But, hey, I don't know anything.

It sure is. The first S&S wooden coaster. Not GG at all!

To answer the other question, Timberhawk will use PTC trains.

I seem to remember a thread about "SFMM's new woodie" a while back using one of those very pictures... ;)

As well they should, GregLeg. Pretty sure CCI would never have left PTC in the first place, except for that little problem they had covering costs...(anybody want a great wooden coaster for an absurdly low price)...;)

edit: BullGuy, SFMM does need a *new* woodie, they just need to bring the *new-ness* to one of their existing woodies...which brings us back to GG...and Colossus. To have TWO great wooden coasters at once over in that corner of the park would really raise SFMM's rep, a whole lot...:)

Even *I* am not silly enough to suggest that Psyclone could be helped too much. Good trains (again, anyone at SFMM need Tom Rebbie's number?) and SOME sort of structural support reinforcement would be a good start though...wood coasters are *supposed* to sway a LITTLE (I love feeling Legend's supports do that as you enter the station at SRM), whereas Psyclone *rocks* back and forth for a good 5-6 seconds after the train passes...something about that ain't right...;)

Now who is smoking what?

Are any of the "large" rollercoaster designs Villain at SFWOA. The gray coaster look almost like it....I don't remember the exact details of the layout.

Well first thing, none of us here know whether they've actually sold a coaster or not. But my goodness, they've only had their doors open a year, give them time.

Btw, aren't they doing some work with Holiday World? And are the rumors true that they may do some tracking work on the Texas Giant? Just wondering. :)

Yeah, their first contract was for maitenance work on Legend n Raven.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't GG a part of S&S's wood division?

Last I heard was that GG & S&S were pretty much one in the same, heck I even thought of a slogan for S&S,it reads S&S Short & Sweet, what do you think ?

I'm afraid you are wrong. Denise Dinn (not Dinn-Larrick anymre, right?) was one of the founders of CCI, and she's now working for S&S. Pretty much everyone else from CCI went out and founded The Gravity Group, which is its own entity.

I am pretty sure that one of the engineers from CCI is with the S&S wood coaster division, Dennis McNulty I *think* (unless he was working their IAAPA booth for free)...;). Someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong...I don't know if there were any other employees that went to S&S as well, there might have been a few others, but there was at least one engineer.

Bringing the topic back to GG, check this out: http://www.thegravitygroup.com/services.html#ConstructionManagement. Now, that is *news* to me. My impression was that they intended to stay clear of the construction aspects, at least at first. Sounds like the *general contracting* is necessary...

They have signed an agreement with Holiday World. That's all I know. I don't think they've sold one yet.

Did the Gravity Group help complete the New Mexico Rattler project after CCI closed their doors?
