GP's fear of TTD

My Advanced Computer Applications teacher and I were discussing it, and he can't wait to ride it. Some people are looking for all out thrill, while others would rather ride the Merry-Go-Round... ;)

Tales for the L33t

I'm going to CP for hallowweekend. So I decited to ask the Buzzer at Beastbuzz what they thought.

Hope to see everyone there!

When I told my friend about the ride, his "GP" reaction was, "ok, now they're just getting stupid, I'm not riding that crap, they're trying to kill people now".

If your the GP, until your standing underneath the ride, watching it run with people smiling afterwards, you just kinda get the feeling someone's gone overboard.

We have been trying to get my bro-in-law to come home from Fl. and go to CP with us for years to no avail. Guess who's coming home this year and what he's dying to ride? Dragster, not to mention all the other great rides CP has to offer.
Maybe the lines might not be that bad on weekdays...even in July! Maybe! Please?

*realises hes probably going to have to wait 2+ hours in line on a tuesday in July*

Hey, at least it should reduce the lines for MF right? RIGHT???!!!

A lil off topic but I wrote a article in my school newspaper about TTD in March. This month I wrote a article about PKI!(2 pages lol). My friend ryan (coaster nut) is about the only one who reads my articles but who cares. Gotta represent the coaster freaks!
The GP has been riding a slightly shorter shuttle coaster in California for about 6 years. I think they'll ride the full-circuit version (+speed/other changes) with a top hat and a twist.

Well, what have been the reactions of your non-enthusiast friends (assuming you have any ;) )? Are they hyped up? Or are they excited to ride it? All of my non-enthusiast friends, even the "tough guys," are begging out.

Well, my non-enthusiast fried who will be there with me in June is just drolling over the thing. I think he is more excited to ride it then I am.

PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN! I mean I accept the fact that my Magnum will no longer have >30min waits all day anymore but if MF's lines go to that size (or atleast >1hr) I will feel compensated.

I work at a university, and have pictures of Dragster up on my wall. Most students ask me about the ride, and most have said they wouldn't go near it, even a couple who have ridden MF. So far, only one co-worker is excited, the rest say we are nuts.

That said, I don't believe TTD will lack for riders, nor will it be a walkon. There are enough thrill seekers, even if they are not "enthusiasts" who will be more than willing to ride.

I remember a lot of people (including me) were scared of MF when it first opened and just look at that line now; it's usuially at least an hour. I remember it haveing up to a NINE HOUR WAIT (no kidding-seriously-I heard it straight from my supervisors mouth) on Saturdays durring the first few weeks in opperation.

People only have to fear it once. After the first ride most riders will go again and again.

My fear of drop rides doesn't go away no matter how many times I ride and this thing reminds me of a drop ride, lol. ;)

Sounds to me like your friend is in serious danger of losing the "non-enthusiast" label....;).

Agreeing exactly, Danny, turbo drops and shot rides *always* get me, that's why I keep riding them (thanks to IoA for DDFF's single rider line....w00t!). TTD is excetionally similar to a trainload of peeps doing a shot ride AND a drop ride (granted, with a twist and extraordinary height).

I may not be "afraid" to ride it, but I can't say that the first train to successfully navigate the course....best done empty, or with water dummies...;). I'll also take a guess and say that the grandstands will NEED to hold some peeps, cause most every group is gonna have 1 or 2 non-riders (*great* for holding valuables and loose articles, ROFL)...

From the people I've talked to, and shown pictures, they are just blown away and in awe. They are definitely going to ride. I think that CP has really conditioned the GP for the big thrills recently with MF and WT. Most people who have braved those two rides will ride TTD as well. Some may need more encouraging than others, but needless to say the lines will still be long.

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.

Look, if people will ride SFMM's "X", I am convinced that they will ride anything!

Well, let's just say that the *common knowledge* about the GP being more afraid of loops than height....is gonna be put to the test....:)

I work at Johnny Rockets located in Southpark Mall in Strongsville, OH which is about an hour or so from Cedar Point. We get people who come in all the time and ask where the next nearest Johnny Rockets is so we tell them Cedar Point.

Immediately, most of the time, people say, "Maybe we should go there this summer, we have to ride that new ride anyway!"

This happens at least a few times a day if not more often especially on saturdays. I've actually gotten behind on serving tables from striking up a conversation with the guests in my section on a busy day.

Infact, many of our guests are planning on attending opening day. I even had one nice guest yesterday who was saying her sister was flying in from AUSTRIA to ride Top Thrill Dragster on Sunday.

Don't forget that the first few weekends in May are PROM weekends. Many teens in the vicinity will be in attendance, and we all know that highschool aged males will drag (no pun intended) their girlfriends onto the ride and have a ton of fun. Not to mention after leaving Cedar point... lol =oP

's all in Twisted Wicker... Can't you see?!

XF, actually, among high school males, I'd actually suggest that the *opposite* is true. In my experience, I've observed MANY more teen males who would shy away from coasters rather than females. Females tend to express more fear and trepidation, but in the end they are more likely to ride even if scared. However, when males are scared, they become dismissive and call the ride "stupid", "pointless", or "junk".

I understand that the so-called "enthusiast community" has an enormous "sausage-per-square-inch" ratio, but I think this is more reflective of males being more likely to get "fanatical" about things and less a reflection of the true make up of coaster riders. I really think that if polls were done, you'd see more female riders than male riders.

For a microscopic example, just ask Sir Willow about *his* family ;)

Hrm...maybe I'm far too womanly. For nearly every new coaster I get on, I get all sorts of scared by it. Scream! didn't do it for me (I mean, it was a lot like Riddler's, so it's not like it's that new), but Xcelerator, Ghost Rider, Deja Vu, and X all had me scared, and I'm *sure* Millennium Force and TTD will have me shaking before I get on 'em.

My gf wants me to ride the Dive Devil (one of those S&S style cable-swing type rides) for her birthday, and I'm scared out of my mind of that thing. I'll ride it, but I'm not looking forward to it.

Maybe I should feel lucky that most of these rides still scare me a lot, it sounds like most people here kinda miss that feeling.
