So it seems Disneyland is hosting a Pride Night in June. Im giving strong thought to flying out there to attend. Ive never been to one of their pride events and Ive been curious about them. Ive done pride events at SFMM, SFFT, and KI, but I have a feeling this will be on a much grander scale. Anyone else thinking of going ?
WDW is known for its Pride Event which is huge, lasts a week, hosts attendees from all around the country, and offers many activities including circuit-style dance parties in giant tent structures.
I assumed DL had something similar, right? I mean really. But turns out this is the first one. I can only imagine that it will seem a lot more “local”, if you will. I didn’t check the dates of the Pride Night but does it coincide with other Pride celebrations in the area? Pride is a big business now and organizers try hard to schedule events that don’t compete with others in the region.
I looked at YouTube and came across a parade that was performed at the Paris park on their Pride day and it was cute. All the characters were in it with rainbow accented costumes and there were a lot of LGBTQ+ employees and supporters (I assume) in a choreographed march.
Ok, so I don’t know anything, really. I guess anytime you can support such an event it’s terrific, but a down side may be if it turns out to be insanely busy. Well, a down side for a park enthusiast, maybe an upside for a single mingler, lol.
This is the first actual "Pride Night" that the DL resort has hosted. There are long running "unofficial" annual Gay Days events in September (formerly October, but moved due to the popularity of the HalloweenTime events). I must say, if you've never done Enchanted Tiki Room sing-a-long, you've missed out on something unique.
Pride in Los Angeles is in June, but because of the region's normally good weather, other locations in SoCal host Pride in different months. SFMM has their "Out on the Mountain" event in Sept, Long Beach Pride is in May.
As far as I know this is the first official "Hard Ticket" LGBT event held in a castle park in the U.S. Orlando has had an evening buy-out event at one of the water parks that coincides with their version of Gay Days, but not ticketed through Disney. However the actual theme park aspects have always been "unofficial" and not a hard ticket, park buyout, offered by Disney.
Definitely a middle finger towards Ron D. Curious to see if they organize one for Florida at a later date. This sort of came up out of nowhere for SoCal. Certainly hasn't been discussed on any of the Disney Nerd boards until the announcement. DL Paris has had a raucous Pride Night for several years now, and I do mean over the top. Characters in unique costumes (think rainbow) so it will be very interesting to see what is done at DL for this event.
The DL Pride Night is a hard ticket, after hours party, similar to the "Disney After Dark" events that have been offered the past few years. Typically this a hard cap of attendance which is generally assumed to be some point less than a busy park day. (Part of the draw is arguably smaller crowds, and shorter wait times).
While this year's DAD offerings have not been completely sold out, it's expected that these Pride Night events will "sell out" to whatever capacity they are booking. What that capacity will be is the unknown at this point. Should also be noted that these events are WEEKNIGHTS in June, not Weekends, so who knows what these will end up crowd wise.
