Got 6 hours at PKI!

I have only 6 hours to be at PKI next Tuesday. I can't get anymore time because it is a school trip. I definatly want to ride beast, SOB, and Racer. How long can I expect to wait for each coaster, How many more can I expect to get on? What coasters are good, but have really short lines so I can ride them if I only have 15- 30 minutes? Thanks For the Help!
I've only been once and the lines were HUGE. Two hours 40 mins for Face/Off (and that wasn't for the front/back seats), so I'd give that a miss.

You must do the Beast, SOB, and FOF, but if the parks busy, the lines will be long. Go for quality over quantity. Although SOB was shut when I was there, but I think you must ride it so you can have you own opinion on it.

Adventure Express, Racer and Vortex had the shortest lines when I went, but you could give them a miss.

Incidentally, I'll be there on Weds, it's the first park of my 18 day trip to the US.

Can't wait to ride the Beast again.

Skip Face-Off. Be sure to catch Flight of Fear, that's the only coaster there I would say you must ride. Beast and SOB are OK, and despite the results of the Coasters' Choice Awards, I don't think they're all that fabulous, just really long. I personally like Top Gun more than the other suspendeds I've been on. Racer is hit and miss, and my first visit this year the computer was busy seeing ghost trains all day on the forward side.

With all due respect to Jeff, I'd definately put Beast before FOF (however, I haven't ridden it with the new restraints). There's no other woodie in the world like it, and one of the best coasters in the world, period. The end helix alone is worth the ride. And SOB is pretty good too, I'd almost put it in the "must ride" category if it weren't for the 2+ hr wait. Top Gun could be a good one for you if time is limited - it's a very good suspended.
What new restraints?

I last rode it in May 2000. Have they done something to it since then, or were they the new ones?

Yes, Grant. They did what lots of coaster nuts and conventional wisdom dating back to 1975 have been saying couldn't be done.

Flight of Fear now has lap bars. Only. The shoulder bars are GONE. Praise God Almighty!!!

It has gone from "darned near unrideable" to "possibly the best ride in the park."

Now some of us are hoping the rest of the industry will see this and get a clue!

The really strange thing is watching "normal" people get off the ride. Last time I was there they still had the old sample photo (showing the shoulder bars mostly covering the people in the photo) posted beneath the video monitors where you can see your own picture. People got off and they knew it was different, they knew it was a lot better than last year, and with the evidence right in front of them (their photo vs. the sample), they couldn't figure out what was different about it. You'd think it would stand out like a sore ear!

Sorry, I knew about the FOF restraints, I misread it and thought he meant the Beast had new ones.

Personally, I never had a problem with FOF, but at least now when I say that I like the ride, I won't get the ear bashing that some people said the restraints gave them.

Traditionally the Tues after Memorial Day is not that busy at the park......

Flight of Fear is a must ride. SOB is a must ride also, it is very intense going through the first drop and first helix. But the best part is the loop.....its a huge 118 ft loop, with only the new style lapbars like Flight of Fear.....its a great feeling going through that huge loop and being able to lift your hands above your head.

Beast is another must ride. First part is really tamed down, but the second drop and helix are pure speed. The Racer is still a great coaster for some airtime. Adventure Express is rough for no bigger than it is, while Vortex doesnt seem to be as rough as it used to be. Top Gun, while short, is fast and does a great manoeuver on the second hill where you swing out way high above the ground and lift hill. Usually a short line for it also.

Save your time and skip Face Off, it is a typical Vekoma ride, rough and the cobra roll just seems like an unnatural movement on it.
I dont know how busy the park will be but since it is a school trip, toher schoolscould be taking trips to PKI as well so it could be crowded. Also, that will be the first day for double rides on Son of Beast, The Beast, Face Off, Drop Zone, and Rugrats Runaway Reptar for gold season pass holders. So that could add some time to those lines. Have fun and try to get on The Beast, and Flght of fear!

From an avid PKI Summer Weekday goer, the lines are usually as follows:

Son Of Beast, Flight of Fear:1 hour-1 hour 1/2

Drop Zone, Face/Off, Beast:45 minutes-1 hour

Racer, Top Gun, King Cobra, Vortex, Adventure Express:walk-on-30 minutes

SOB, FOF, Beast, Racer, TG, Drop Zone, and Vortex are musts. Try to see 7th Portal too. You could get them all in, but time will be tight. And The Beasts' ARE all that! I guess you're spoiled by Mean Streak huh Jeff? ;)
If you get there at opening time, go straight to SOB, then FOF. With luck you can get them both before the lines build too much. Then either catch Top Gun because you are there or go to the Beast. Like others have said, SOB, FOF, and the Beast are the long waits. Don't skip Beastie, it may be a junior, but it's a great junior.

The more I ride The Beast, the more I start to think it's heavily over-rated. Sure, that helix is cool, but the parts in between don't really do anything. I remember one enthusiast describing it as "Amtrak through the woods."

I guess now that I'm not a Raven/Legend virgin, I'm more than a little spoiled when it comes to wood coasters.

Well Jeff, you could probably look at it from another standpoint of someone that say just got to ride Magnum for the first time this year. They sit there after the ride and wonder why it is always in the top 10 steel list and consider it extremely overrated. Its the nostalgia behind the Beast that puts it up on the list countless times as well as Magnum. Never ridden either coaster but I am speaking this based on what I read constantly on these forums and others.

""Coaster riding is a disease and SFGAm is the cure!!!!!!!""
I'll have to agree that The Raven and The Legend are better coasters, but The Beast is The Beast. There's no escaping. And SOB is just insane!

I see your point, Chitown, but I've been riding the Beast a lot longer than Magnum. In fact, it might be safe to bet that Beast was my first wood coaster.

And no, Koaster King, it's not hard for me to compare a 22-year old coaster to younger coasters. I did, didn't I? Why is it that every post you make comes just short of saying, "No stupid, you're wrong?"

Because maybe I'm not that kind of person. Does that answer the question?

I will be visiting PKI for the first time since Top Gun opened.

Yes it will be a Saturday. (June 2nd)

I know it's going to be crowded, but how long are the lines for the big rides? Does the "ride as many coasters as you can before noon" strategy work here? thanks
Generally, lines are shortest. right when the park opens and then a couple of hours before the park closes.

You can't run and you can't hide...The Beast at PKI
I noticed that they've put the price of their seasons pass up to $84.99. It was $79.99 before May 20th. Can you ever get a discount on a seasons pass?
