Cedar Fair announced that C. Thomas Harvie has been appointed as a Class I Director of its general partner, with a term ending 2010. Mr. Harvie replaces Thomas A. Tracy who retired from the board effective December 31, 2007. Mr. Harvie has been appointed to serve as a member of the board’s Compensation Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.

Dick Kinzel, chairman, president and chief executive officer, stated, “I’d like to thank Tom Tracy for his years of dedicated service to our organization. At the same time, I’m excited to be working with Tom Harvie who I believe will provide valuable guidance and counsel for Cedar Fair in this challenging business environment.” Mr. Harvie is senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, having joined Goodyear in 1995. Prior to joining The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company he was vice president and associate general counsel at TRW Inc., where he had served since 1976.

How many people are on the board?
Who is this guy? What's the link between the Amusement Industry and tires? Is he a good friend of Kinzel's or something?

Yes, he probably is a friend seeing as how everyone on the board seems to rubber stamp whatever the executive team wants to do, but company boards are not always occupied by people in the same industry. I mean, Al Gore is on the board for Apple. Remember that they're part-time jobs. This guy still works at Goodyear.

Kinda like Steve Jobs on the Disney board. Then again, he had something they really really wanted.

So blimp rides at the point? ;)

And apparently, Hillary Clinton was on the Board of Wal-Mart.

But, I think an "outside perspective" on a corporate Board is a good long as you are willing to hear the criticism as well as the praise. I'm not sure Dick appreciates the former.

Maybe he can get Hypersonic some good wheels...steel belted I'm thinking for less bounce.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Goodyear is a company that's exactly kicking ass in the business world either. So I'm not sure what business expertise Mr. Harvie brings to the boardroom.

BTW, there are many people who are on multiple Boards of Directors of different companies.
