Good news: RCT2/3D semi-confirmed

I don't know if it's true or not, but in the RCT forum on Danimation there is a post from one of the moderators called "Important Date for you all....."

Supposedly, the sequel is coming out Feb. 19. Hopefully this is true. Make whatever you want out of it. I'm just spreading some info.

Don't belive anything unless you read it on Chris Sawyer's, Infogrames', Hasbro's, or Microprose's website.
All these things on the net that say "Game X is being released on date X" have virtually no meaning unless if they are from the developer, retailer, or publisher. If you belive them because they say "Person X himself told me," well, look at my next paragraph.
I got this in my email from Chris Sawyer. He said that we are gonna get a real treat in February! YAY!
See, anyone can say stuff like that, and if you spend a little time on it, you could make it sound professional.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love for it to come out in February, but we don't even have proof that it's in development at all, and who's to say that Chris Sawyer is developing it? Sid Meier didn't develop CivIII, but he developed Civ and CivII.

I never said I totally believed it, but there's always a chance. Like I said, Make whatever you want out of it.

I personally say this is an absolute NIL rumor... you can dispose of it, because it's crap... plain & simple.

I follow the PC games very closely... what's new, what's old, and what's currently in development. Nowhere have I read even a smidgen or a blurb that Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 is even in the works, let alone going to be released in mid Februrary.

The thing that also strikes me as not right...

...There is no hype. A successful game needs months of hype to come out. As of now, including now... there has been no hype or mention of a true RCT sequal... so how is that game going to sell if there's no hype surrounding it for the audience to buy it?

It's all rumors... ESPECIALLY when the rumor is started in a RCT fan site as opposed to a true PC game site (ie: Gamespot.com or pc.ign.com).

...Wondering what the 2002 season holds for all parks...

Ya know... It could be, you never know.  They could've kept the development really secret, but I dunno.  They've had enough time, but I still doubt they can top No Limits.

I've been watching the PC game industry for years. One of the best sites (with a serious sense of humor) is Voodoo Extreme. It's in part where I got the idea for CoasterBuzz, in that it links you to all of the daily news and has a few of its own features.

After reading that site for years, one thing is certain: The gaming industry is like the amusement industry. Everyone knows everyone and people who really know don't talk (those who talk don't know). Furthermore, nothing ever comes out on time. It's one of the few places in business that the "when it's done" motto is actually acceptable.

I agree that it's likely crap.

Accually, Dawg Byte, look at the original RCT. It appeared out of no where, had no hyper, and was unheard practically until the day it was released. Most games, however, do follow the mentality you explained, but thats because most games are developed by large teams, not one or two people. Less people, less mouths, less leaks.

ya but that was because it was a brand new game from a little known programmer.  After spending more than 2 years at or around the top 10 level, you better bet that Hasbro or whatever company will be marketing it would want to ype it.  Will we see a RCT 2?  I think yes.  Will we see it on Feb. 19?  I think no.

I think you may see an announcement around that time.

An interesting point was how the add-ons snuck onto the market.

Brand new games, yeah, I know that. Thats what Dawg Byte and I were both talking about. But I wouldn't exactly call Chris Sawyer a little known programmer. He is up there (and was back then) with Will Wright and Sid Mieier. You should try to find his first solo-project, it's a good game. Transport Tycoon. Somewhere on the net I found it for free. I won't try to again, because I don't know if it's a public domain game yet. It sucks that I can't play it anymore. It's a dos game, and I have XP.

There is also this to consider:  RCT in its various versions, remains a top selling title.  Not AS high as it once ranked, but the point is that the game still sells and sells big.  They are not going to risk costing themselves sales if they know they can very easily milk the existing titles for another year or so.  Any follow-up of the original game will be very closely followed.  If it sucks, it is a serious disaster.

What is more, there is in my mind, a major question of what exactly do you do with a full scale sequal?  Do you forge a new graphics engine?  Do you wisely find a way to allow old game files to import into it?

Personally?  They managed to port SimCity 2000 to the Pocket PC, the coolest thing on this earth would be some kind of playable version of RCT on a PDA two years from now, when the power of the new units is four times greater, and on par with what you'd need to run it.  At least, an editor to design coasters and such, that would be cool.

There are so many very slick amature editors coming out for the original game, and such a wide base of users, I'd say it is wise to let the masses play, wait until you have something that really is a step up, then drop the bomb.

Why would I not fire a sequal off now?  Easy, I'm waiting for the hype to settle down for X-Box, PS2, and Game Cube.  Then I fire off a sequal that ports over well to PCs and the game systems, and also takes advanatage of the newer graphics standards.
