Good news about the Vancouver PNE Coaster

I have just been informed that the city of Vancouver,BC has granted the PNE/Playland another year to remain at their current location. This means we have at least one more year to get our rides on the classic Carl Phare designed Coaster! For more information on the PNE/Playland, go to www.pne.bc.ca.For photos of the PNE Coaster ,go to www.joyrides.com.

Perhaps this can give more time to talk park officials into moving it?

Hmm... well I guess that's good news. One year isn't much though. I should be taking a trip up north to catch it while I can then.

Bigkirby, have you ridden the PNE Coaster yet? While we dont' have much wood(or steel ,for that matter) to ride here in the Pacific Northwest, what we do have is quality wood.PNE has the Coaster, Silverwood has Timber Terror and Tremors, and the Puyallup Fair has Coaster Thrill Ride(which I hope to be riding in about a week)

This is great news. I was hoping to get up to Vancouver this year to ride Coaster (I deeply regret not riding it during the time I was living in Seattle, but the enthusiast "bug" hadn't bitten me yet at that point), but it's not going to happen.

Next year, a Northwest expedition is definitely in order.

It is surprising to me how many enthusiasts do not know about the PNE. They dont' advertise much outside of British Columbia. It was quite by accident that I found out about the PNE 4 years ago.

Yeah, Ron! I thought it was torn down years ago. It was really nice to see that it wasn't, and riding it in April was a serious treat.. This weekend can't come soon enough!!!!!!

I'm thrilled to hear that Coaster will be preserved for at least one more year...I'd been intending to head out to BC & Idaho this summer, but got sidetracked into going on the second leg of the ACE European Odyssey instead...you can be sure that next year I'll be heading out west to sample this classic woodie, along with it's two newer CCI pals at Silverwood :-)

Hey, this is good news. Does anybody have any idea what may happen at the end of next year, or is the ride's fate totally "up in the air?"

See you soon Rob!

At this point the PNE Coasters' fate is still undecided.I have been in contact with PNE media relation director. At this point, the PNE has been negotiating with the city of Vancouver to remain at their current location,as they have been unsuccessful in finding a suitable location to move to.Because of this, the future of the PNE itself is up in the air.If the PNE does move, proposals for Coaster include moving it,or building a replica utilizing the existing trains. With all my inquiries, the PNE was nice enough to send me a VHS copy of footage documenting the contruction of Coaster and the PNE itself.

Oh, I'd love to go to PNE with you guys, but I'm going to Japan next Thursday and need to save my money for Fuji-Q and SpaLand. I'll try to go, but I have a feeling my wifey might pull rank on me and say "no".
