Good Coasters With Bad Reputations

How can you complain about 200' air? Good stuff!

My only problem with the ride is lack of scenery. How about some trees and grass? They could throw in an entire picnic area down there.

I rode Goliath in 2000 and was very impressed. 4 years later, who knows. But I have a sneaking suspicion that it's a coaster guilty by association; namely, being at a six flags park. I believe many folks' frustration with how certain flagged parks operate clouds their judgement of the coasters located in those parks.

Bottom line is if Goliath were at say, a CF park, it may not garner much love, but probably wouldn't have nearly the bad rap it gets.

They Live. We Sleep.

X-Flight at Geauga Lake. I always hear that it is boring and wimpy, but I think it is a fun and exciting ride.

Flight of Fear at PKI! Ever since they got rid of the shoulder harnesses, this ride has been awesome. Yeah, it's still jerky, but the launch into the darkness is always intimidating, and the second half after the break run is one of the best out there. I don't know of any coaster with a worse reputation, but that was its pre-lab bar reputation.
SFMM's Colossus is a great ride. In the front seat of the last car, I was out of my seat most of the time! The turned drop always gets me. In the back seat, it's worse. It looks as if the train is falling off the track as you whip over the top. And it's not that rough, either!

Hey! That's MY hamburger!

I have to agree with Vater on Manhatan Express. I absolutly loved that 2nd inversion. Best inversion ever.

While Canyon Blaster doesn't really get bashed, I was very surprised by the air on that ride.

I also loved Manhatten Express. It takes my number 2 steel coaster spot. I never found it overly rough, but I did find the first two drops to deliver quite a gut wrench, the inversions to be top of the line, and the bunny hills toward the end to be filled with airtime.

I have to also agree with Iron Wolf. It by far has THE best corkscrew I've ever experienced. I've only experienced one noticeably rough ride, other than that it beats out Raging Bull at SFGAm IMO.

Mildly amused since 2003.
Viper at SFDL has a bad rep with enthusiasts for being an arrow, but I love that ride! I find it very smooth and no headbanging. Same with Predator, the GP says it's rough, but I think it's great, lots of air.

The bad coaster that gets the rave and shouldn't...Definitly Magnum XL 200 @ CP... worst hyper I have ever ridden. Absolutely no airtime on any of the hills, and I was in the back. Rough at the bottom, and an uncomfortable seat.

WHAT WHAT WHAT? Sorry for shouting, but I can not beleive what you are saying! In my humble opinion, the Magnum XL-200 is the best coaster I have ever been on, and perhaps the Greatest Coaster of All Time! Now I do prefer certain seats. Front seat, last time I was on it, bored me, and the anti-ejector (6-1) isn't as great as my buddy Mr. Magnum seems to think.

But your ride quality on Magnum does depend on several factors, including weather, where you sit, and how you fasten your seat belt. The best rides tend to be when the trims are off, or on days where the trim doesn't kill the speed going into the turnaround. The ejector seat has the best pops of air I know of anywhere, and the way to enjoy that air comfortably is the have your seatbelt as tight as possible.

I guess I just don't beleive your no-airtime comment, as for me, the air is one of the things that makes Magnum #1!

Enough of my rant for now. I need to focus on healing my back, so I can ride Magnum again! (I hope it wasn't Magnum that hurt it in the first place).

Seriously folks lets lay off Magnum, we are never going to come to an agreement.

In my experience about 50% of coaster enthusiasts love it the other hate it (I fall in the former group for those wanting to know). Its all a matter of taste.

Going back to what this tread is really about, I agree with sentiments towards Verkoma Flyers, Blue Streak, and Alpengeist (my #1 steel). I would also like to add to the coasters with little recognition that should have more the great Yankee Cannonball, my first coaster. It is pure air, a fantastic ride.

Also, even though it gets a lot of praise, Viper @ SFGAm should get even more this truely the best imitation of the Cyclone I have ever ridden; it beats the Texas and Georgia Cyclone to a pulp (I have yet to ride the original so I cant comment on that comparison). Viper is a top 10 wood coaster.

How can you say it's the best imitation having never ridden Mom? Mom kicks ass in a sweet S&M Oedipal way. Viper is a great ride but lacks Mom's brutality and is more like the sweet young aunt you find yourslef having naughty thougts about. Texas Cyclone is like evil uncle Ernie, usually scary but some time just fiddling about. Psyclone is the idiot savant that should be locked up 99.9% of the time but that .1% it shows genius, ok maybe .001%.

Don't make me have to put smileys on this. *** Edited 5/25/2004 4:53:27 PM UTC by boblogone***

Good Coaster with a Bad Rep? Everyone knows my answer. Refer to signature ;)
SOB.
Magnum XL 200 has been my favorite for the past 15 years. I prefer Magnum over MF or TTD any day.
I would say Drachen Fire (R.I.P) I miss this ride. I think Blue Streak and the Wildcat at CP are also underrated
