Coaster Grotto - Save your Top 20 Coasters and Track Record Online!
Ok, i posted this in a another thread, but i forgot were it went, so i'll describe it again. I did most rides in the backrow, cause i like being suddenly jerked over the hills sooooo much.
The ride starts with a gentle acceleration up the lifthill. When at 3/4 of the hill the pulley accelerates some more, creating more anticipation. It also scared the h*ll out of me the first time, cause i totally didn't expect that to happen. Actually, Goliath was my first coaster this season, so silly me... i forgot how you get jerked over the apex sitting in the last row. First thought when that happened: "WOW SH*T!!!" And guys, an intamin dive of 70 degrees feels like 90, so i had massive ejector air all the way to the bottom of the first drop. More air at the second hill and a good quantity of G's in the gentle turn to the Stengel dive.
The Stengel dive is simply amazing and delivers different sensations in various seats. In the front you suddenly feel the track being jerked away from under you very...VERY voilent! That was one of the points i actually thought the ride wasn't safe hahaha. In the last row it happens more gently and actually here's where you feel the excellent engineering skills of our favorite coasterguru. Your body follows the parabolic path of the track perfect. I actually floated upside down without touching my restraints OR the chair! Because of the weird angle you're in, combined with the high velocity, it feels like you're gonna crash straight into the ground, but the train levels out just in time to enter the caroussel.
There's a nice airial photo on rcdb on which it seems to have a pretty large radius, but look at the angle of the track. http://www.rcdb.com/full/six-flags-holland/goliath26.jpg The G's here are very impressive and sustained for a long period of time. After that's it's into the inverted corckscrew (can't think of it otherwise) High g's and great laterals in every seat. Next caroussel with great headchoppers and more g's. Personally i think this part just lasts a few seconds too long, but hey, i can't complain cause just a few meters away there's the next inverted corkscrew, ready to throw me from side to side.
The three rapid fire bunnies deliver some great final ejectors and right before hitting the brakes, a really tight turn (radius of max 30 feet) shows how much force a slowed down train can still deliver.
Looking at the layout of S:ROS SFNE, i think this baby would equal it's intensity. If only it were just a little taller...
