On COASTERnet, it says that Top Gun at Carowinds was going to be originally themed to Godzilla, but because of the movie's lack of success it was named Top Gun... interesting...
reminds me of the original name for RAPTOR......

Is Godzilla even Paramount? I was reading it but was a little unsure if that was true so I posted it to see if anyone else believed it or has heard of this before? It seemed like they are talking about the american Godzilla... didnt that movie do well though? It wasnt under the rumors though... it was in the description for the ride under the coaster gallery.

The only Godzilla movie done by Paramount that I know of was "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero". Paramount Parks will not have been able to do a Godzilla themed ride due to Sony Pictures/Columbia Pictures has the U.S. rights to the Big-G.

Now as for the coaster name Godzilla, THAT is indeed accurate. That information comes from a former employee of both Six Flags and Paramount Parks. Concepts were drawn up for it to be Godzilla.
You can also find more coaster information from the same source in the rare info index, including a number of considered pre-debut names for rides which were turned down.
