Godzilla now Top Gun at Carowinds...

On COASTERnet, it says that Top Gun at Carowinds was going to be originally themed to Godzilla, but because of the movie's lack of success it was named Top Gun... interesting...
The american  Godzilla movie was a columbia - tri star release  are they associated with paramount?  I know some of the older japanese Toho Godzilla  movies were distibuted in the U S by paramount  and a ride could easily be themed to godzilla based on the japanese version due to simple name recognition

Ahhh...yet another quality rumor from Coasternet.  From reading them I believe there must be an age limit to post on Coasternet:  no one above 13 years old...LOL!
GODZILLA is a natural  for a ride theme though   I think there was a simulator ride in Japan   themed to it a few years ago    I don't  know if its still there
Is Godzilla even Paramount? I was reading it but was a little unsure if that was true so I posted it to see if anyone else believed it or has heard of this before? It seemed like they are talking about the american Godzilla... didnt that movie do well though? It wasnt under the rumors though... it was in the description for the ride under the coaster gallery.

reminds me of the original name for RAPTOR......

TERROR-DACTYL

I have the VHS and it says columbia tri-star  not paramount
I have seen paramounts logo on some of the older japanese movies when they are  shown on  the sci-fi network
TERROR-DACTYL huh   I always thought they used the name RAPTOR to capitalize indirectly on the success of the first jurassic park movie just changing it to the bird to avoid   complications from universal

That sounds doubtful since Raptor means "bird of prey" which fits the logo of the Cedar Point Raptor perfectly...

...unlike the Toronto Raptors which does use the ol' dinosaur playin' a little b-ball.

The only Godzilla movie done by Paramount that I know of was "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero".  Paramount Parks will not have been able to do a Godzilla themed ride due to Sony Pictures/Columbia Pictures has the U.S. rights to the Big-G.

It doesn't matter if it isn't a Paramount movie.  At Universal Studios they have T2: 3D, Twister, and MIB.  None of which are Universal produced movies.  Paramount could just buy the rights to the movies like Universal did.

Youre right about buying the rights IOARULES  after all isnt Indiana Jones  a paramount property and Disney  built a ride themed to it
In RCT I usually paint my B&M sit down's green and then theme it with the japanese stuff, and then name it GODZILLA.  Although i doubt the rumor, I do think that its a natural theme for a ride.  I hope it happens sometimes.
I did the same in one of my rct parks  I built a racing hyper b&m and named the green side godzilla and the gray side mechagodzilla.  They race thru half destroyed buildings.   I also built a launching inverted thru the top of a volcano that I called rodan and a suspended named mothra   the park is kimberly lake 5 and is posted at rct station under  loopy landscapes  with the rest of my kimberly lake parks in a park pack
First off, you will find the RUMORS in the RUMORS and News section. We CANNOT guarantee the accuracy of the submitted rumors. But in the Coaster Gallery, if you find a mistake, please take the time to let us know.

Now as for the coaster name Godzilla, THAT is indeed accurate. That information comes from a former employee of both Six Flags and Paramount Parks. Concepts were drawn up for it to be Godzilla.

You can also find more coaster information from the same source in the rare info index, including a number of considered pre-debut names for rides which were turned down.
