Glasses help (Busch Gardens)

Hey! We're a family visiting Orlando, Florida from the UK. Tomorrow we're heading out to Busch Gardens and I have a question as someone who likes to ride rollercoasters. I wear prescription glasses and I was wondering whereabouts I may be able to store my glasses when riding the bigger coasters. I heard there are lockers at the park. Do I have to pay to put just glasses inside or will they allow me to leave them on the side to collect after for free? I have nowhere on my person to put them and have no strap to secure them. Thanks in advance!

A sports strap for your glasses shouldn't be too hard to find. It's possible the park may even sell them, but I'd check a drugstore (like a CVS) before getting there.

I always wear my glasses on every coaster at any park. I go to Busch Gardens all the time and I've never had a concern about losing them on any of the coasters. I'm much more concerned with things falling out of my pockets, but they have lockers for rent for $5 for the whole day, and you can transfer them from ride to ride which is convenient. The only ride you can't wear glasses on (trust me I've tried) is Falcon's Fury, which kind of sucks because I don't get to enjoy the view. However if you are really concerned I think Vater's suggestion is more than sufficient. Have fun - it's a great park!

PS - there's free storage areas on the side of every coaster if you don't want to pay the $5, but I always do for peace of mind because I don't want someone walking off with my wallet or cell phone.

Coasters. Games. Metal.
Life is good...

He probably wants to take 0 chance whatsoever. Being from the U.K., it would really suck to lose them over here.

...and yes, they sell all kinds of different things at the drug store here.

The best of all the jokers is clearly Mark Hamill.

I hope you are enjoying our sweltering heat and afternoon thunderstorms.

I have never been asked to take my glasses off on any coaster at BGT, and have never had an issue with them not staying secure on any ride, so you should be good.

I wear a strap....and BGT is no Knott's.

I strongly recommend one, if for no other reason than being able to relax and enjoy the rides without worry.

Plus, I love it when ride ops ask me: "Sir, do you have a strap on?" (thinking of Moosh today)

And in the event that you can't find a glasses strap at CVS, you can always buy a pack of gum or a drink, and use the receipt..

Only after you've folded it in half about 100 times, and even then you'll still have a few inches of slack to scrunch up.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I ended up just pocketing them on the majority of rides. Had a good day, but thunderstorms ruined it a but nearer the end.

That brought a smile to my day.

Wrong Busch Gardens, I know...but years ago when I first ride Griffon, the recorded announcement instructed all riders to wear their eyeglasses and sunglasses.

I had never heard such an announcement before. But it was good advice.

If you ask me, that's where they're the safest. Never lost a pair off of my face, but I've lost a pair Stuffed down my shirt on Dragster.

Hey, let's ride (random Intamin coaster). What? It's broken down? I totally didn't expect that.

In all my years riding roller coasters, in the rare occasion that I felt my glasses were about to fall off, I simply placed my finger on them, at the bridge of the nose between the lenses, to hold them on. Easy as pie, and effective.

But in the recent decade or so, I've had them strapped to my face. Walmart sells glasses for a dollar or two. For a few dollars more, you can get the ones that float. I wear the floating strap when I go swimming, rafting, or kayaking at a lake.

Twice I've actually had *secured* glasses leave my face....both times at waterparks. Never on an amusement ride...

Poseidon's Rage, Mt. Olympus - some nice lady found them a LONG, long way from where I had them knocked off. Best wave pool ANYWHERE....

The other time was on the slide adjacent to Boogie Bahn, Schlitterbahn NB. An attendant found them QUITE a long way down the chute...

I guess the lesson is that rushing water can move a lot of things...I'll alert Tampa and Miami.
