Girl hit with loose object on coaster at Iowa Adventureland

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

A girl riding a roller coaster at Adventureland in Altoona was hospitalized in fair condition after an accident. An Adventureland representative confirmed that the girl was riding the Tornado roller coaster Monday when she was hit in the head by a loose board that was placed on the side of the ride and was not part of the roller coaster.

Crap. That's no good.
There are a lot of questions that pop up in my mind. Like, how does one hit their head on a board placed on the side of the track? Why was there a board on the side of the track?

I'm anxious to hear more.

My guess is that the board was leaned up against the coaster on-end. As the train before went by the vibrations caused the board to slide to one side and come to rest on the hand rail. Thus one end stuck out over the track. When the next train came by the girl was hit.

Local radio this morning said the girl was still in the hospital and now it was 3 people that were injured.

Not good for my home park.

Ouch, that had to hurt. (I;ve been knocked a few times by 2x4's while building stuff.)
This is just one of those things where you're dying to know, "Just how the heck did THAT happen?" Was there nearby construction or something?
Not good but thats woody's for ya...
