Getting to Parks Car-less hard?

This season ,I called many local Amusmentparks, and not so local parks in my area which get major attendance from Newyork or areas around, and I asked them if they knew of any charter bus service to their park or know of any conections to their parks, and the only major Amusment park easy to get to without a car was Sixflags Great Adventure which would be to get on a Atlantic exspress bus for $28 without park ticket or $50 with park ticket, but to get to Hersheypark from N.y you would have to take a greyhound bus at 2am to get to hershey, P.A by 9am which cost $26 with no park ticket or take a train to harrisburge, then take a taxi to the park the train was the same prices as the bus or a little more, or to get to Dorneypark you would have to some how take a bus to get to the Allentown bus terminal (I think thats the name?) then take a taxi to the park. Now is there any easyer way?. ,I have looked, and there seems to be none, I thought I would write a topic on this just to see what others had to say on getting to there local parks via puplic transprotation, and to get the word out on how hard it is to get to parks if you dont drive.

Plus I wanted to ask what other ways have you found to getting to parks? Maybe renting a car?, which if the price is split amoung a certan amount of people can maybe cost as much as a bus or a little more. Or maybe traveling with freinds ,or family, or just not going at all. For me I plan on getting to Dorneypark by car,and not getting to Hershey this season becuase its too far,and I have already been to alot of parks this season, but if the conection from Nyc wasent so hard I would have gave it a try. Have you given puplic transportation a try,and how was it?

I rented a car to do SFGAdv. and Dorney from Boston last summer. Split it three ways and it came out to about $50 a head. It wasn't too bad considering the alternatives, but it would've been a lot cheaper if we'd had a car. Lake Compounce and SFNE don't seem to have any realistic way to get to or from the park without a car from Boston. Getting back from the park would be even worse.

A rollercoaster? What's that?

Buy a season pass for a friend who owns a car & go with them all season long.

I live on Cleveland's east side and have been trying to think of ways to get to amusement parks without cars. Getting to SFWoA is pretty easy and cheap too, it wouldn't cost more than $3. I would just have to take the Rapid Transit and then a bus. Getting to Cedar Point on the other hand has been a little more difficult. It would require either taking a Greyhound or an Amtrak to Sandusky and then a cab to the park. And thats out of my price range.

Well, those are my experiences anyway.

Just sit back, and enjoy your record breaking ride on Millennium Force!

Before I turned 25(When it is dirt cheap to rent a car), I had to find ways to get to parks using Public Transit.

One constraint that you have to deal with is the park must be close to a Major City.

Parks like Six Flags Great America(Chicago), PGA, Canada's Wonderland are relatively easy to get to, because they are located within or near residential/comercial areas.

Parks like Darien Lake, Holiday World, would most likely require some serious planning, and patience to get to, as they are located in relatively remote areas.

1. You can take Amtrak or Greyhound into Hershey and stay at the hotel downtown. Then you can walk to the park.

2. You can get to Station Square in Pittsburgh by Amtrak, Greyhound, Delta Queen riverboat or air then taxi. Then you can take a PAT bus to the park. They run about every 30 minutes and drop you off right at the entrance.

3. You can take Amtrak to the station pretty close to Cedarpoint, then take either a taxi or local bus to the park. Stay at the point and you can walk to the park.

4. You can take Amtrak to Erie, then a local bus to Waldameer. Several motels surround the park.

If you go to PKI you can stay downtown and ride bus number 71/72. Get on at Government Square on 5th street between Walnut and Main Street in downtown Cincinnati. Some routes even run express. And the best part is, it's only 50 cents through labor day.
