German rollerblades down coaster track!

I got such a kick out of this, at the bottom it said Dirk survived 3 loops! So I immediately looked up the coaster on RCDb, nup, it's a Gerstlauer steel wild mouse/family coaster. http://www.rcdb.com/installationdetail1011.htm Had another look at the article - "180 loops," huh? Must be referring to the hairpin turns. Still very impressive anyway. I don't know if actual loops are possible as Dirk could easily loose his upright position & seriously injure himself. Then there's the whole inertia thing.

Note he's holding onto a brake lever with his right hand. Very nifty.

Btw, did Gerstlauer spin off Schwarzkopf or Intamin? I thought this coaster was an Intamin at first! Can imagine Dirk riding the 10 inv. Colossus. ;)

crazy but impressive

You said it!

Come on mates, have a look, it's for real. Wish I could paste the pic directly, oh well.

"In '94 a uni student scored several injuries after riding a skateboard down Bathurst's Conrod Straight. Wearing only light clothing he came off on reaching 100km/h."

Awesome, whatever it means! When I first heard about this, I thought he had regular in-line skates to do it. Now I see that they have two sets of running wheels and upstops and something to hold his feet in the right place. I'm not too impressed anymore, but it still is awesome. I bet that would be a lot of fun!

haux, that factoid refers to a skateboarder on a straight downhill stretch of road on one of the top racing car tracks down under. That'll leave him with little skin. Ouch.

Yeah, if he used regular blades, that's goodbye to the crown jewels. ;) I'm sure you knew that. Even though with what he used, he still could fall on his butt or forward on his hands. That is too horrific to think of.

Btw, check out the photo captions, they're hilarious! If you don't understand any, lemme know & I'll explain them. This is from a men's magazine, no not the naughty kind, just funny & crazy stuff like cars, stupid things etc. :)

I'd like to see Dirk try this on a Beemer. He'd have to assume the limbo position!

Wow - that's gotta hurt going down on the skateboard. Guessing that that's on the Mt Panorama track?

Lucky he wasn't on anything like a Mack Wild Mouse, or he'd probably have had his legs a little too far apart for comfort. Should have gone on Eureka Mountain down here - then he'd have been able to ride with his feet together the track is so thin, although he'd not be left with much of a head by the end of the ride. :)

So what if the best coaster in Australia is a second hand Arrow?

yeah, i got the "forbidden message too" - sounds interesting though.

Strange, some people have seen it, some haven't. I used Webshots as they offer full-size viewing, unless someone wishes to host it. How about you Rick?

Yup, Mt Panorama. Hehe, that's why I said he should ride a Beemer. I agree, he would have lost his head to one of the skeletons. ;)

Btw, it's on pages 46-7 of the October FHM Mag if you want to grab your own copy.

If you want to send me the picture tonight - richard@totalthrills.com (don't bother after tonight - I'll be gone for the weekend, so it'd be slow getting to me :)), I can bung it somewhere.

If I walk past a newsagent, and I happen to have any spare money (like that ever happens), I'll be sure to think about possibly buying a copy.

Not being able to view the picture appears (at least for me) to be a Netscape issue. I can't view it using Netscape but was able to with Internet Explorer.

Oh man, is it a browser problem or a Webshots problem?
I was finally able to view it via copy and paste. As for the pic and story; crazy, yet impressive! I'd like to see him do that Expedition Ge-Force!

I've seen this guy before, or at least I mean I've seen pictures of him skating a few of these rides, I think on rcdb in some of the 'Other Information' boxes a few of the other Gerslauters or maybe even Vekoma Rollerskaters, they've had him at the openings skating these things, crazy stuff that I'd love to see. I even remember seeing something about an upcoming opening he was to skate.
It's got to be only a matter of time before this happens in other places.
Sounds silly at first, but when you get to see a picture of it, it's SWEEEEET.

oops!
