Georgia Aquarium beluga whale gravely ill

One of the Georgia Aquarium's five prized beluga whales is gravely ill and his immune system remains weak, aquarium officials said. Gasper, a 17-year-old male beluga, has been ill for several years and doctors recently diagnosed a potentially deadly infection.

Amazing how a 'civilized' country (Mexico) can treat animals like that.
^ That was horribly phrased. I'm sure you're not suggesting the entire country of Mexico is negligent and responsible for the illness of a Beluga. That country's codes and regulations regarding the handling and ownership of wildlife in captivity are not as strict as ours and is solely the fault of the previous owner, which kept the animal in an incredibly inaquedate environment.
I just read on cnn.com that the GA had to euthanise Gasper. Really sad.

And as far as Mexico and wild aquatic animals, what about the killer whale used in Free Willy? Really taken care of while he was there, wasn't he? /end sarcasm
