Gemini 25 Years old

You can read it all here

This on the back of the brochure I got in 1977 which announced the "new coaster" for the 1978 season.

But Loch Ness Monster opened in the same year at 130 feet tall and a speed of 60 mph and what about the many shuttle loops that opened in 77 and 78 with heights of 130 feet-148 feet and 70 degree drops?

I believe Nessie has a 130 foot drop, it's not 130 feet tall. The speed however would be more.

As for shuttle loops I think we have all established that shuttle coasters "don't count"

Nessie's height is indeed 130 feet

Whats to argue. Gemini is a great coaster and a modern classic. I don't think this coaster will ever get old.

Back on topic...
I haven't heard anything about any B-day thing for Gemini. I hope they do do something tho.

It doesn't matter. The coaster wars weren't vicious in '77-'78. CP probably held the record for a few days, and had plenty to hype up that offseason.

Perhaps LNM was announced after Gemini?

Hey Rollergator, that was me who was GeminiHandSmacker. I changed my name to this one so that I'd have the same name on all my messageboards (since I visit PKI ones more, I stuck with this name). I'm going to make sure to ride Gemini at least 25 times when I make it up to CP this summer in celebration!!! I still feel envious of all the Gemini 100 people!

As for the record breakers, Gemini had the taller lift hill, but LNM had a larger drop. I have an original press release somewhere in the office that states around a 118' lift for LNM, with a 127' drop. The Gemini is 125', as we all know, with a 118' drop.

The Gemini is faster on the drops as the trains are much heavier. From a maintenence standpoint, they are modified mine trains, and being 30 passengers, the train is much heavier.

For what it is worth, Arrow became a world class company when those 2 rides operned in 1978. And as noted before on this site, they are probably the best of the Arrow line, and 2 of the best coasters in the world.

Ummm, I have a tiny problem with that, actually its a 200 ft tall problem ;). I dont think Im going out on a limb when I say Magnum is clearly superior to to Gemini and LNM. No offense Agent Johnson.

I don't care what anyone says, Magnum is better then Millenium Force.

No offense taken. As an industry type, if you consider the
dollar per dollar investment and return on ridership, the Gemini eeks out Magnum.

Based on that logic, I cant argue with you. Infact, using the cost per rider basis I bet Gemini is at least in the top five steel coasters if not the best steel coaster thanks to CPs huge crowds, Gemini's amazing ride capacity, and the rides popularity at age 25. Infact if anyone happens to have that stat sheet it would be an interesting look through.

**On second thought, CP not being a full year park would likly kill Gemini's chance of a #1 or even #5 (Disney Coasters must be at the top most of them are old for steel and 300+ days a year they ride at full capacity the entire day) but I am willing to believe Gemini is still in the top ten.**

Yeah I thought it was funny they painted the station and finally cleaned the roof about 2 years ago, and didnt wait till the anniversay like they did for Corkscrew. I believe last year it got new banners, and I believe this year it is getting air gates along with Raptor, Maggie
Magnum already got gates for the 2002 season.

When they painted the station in those bright colors, they should have painted the wood structure of the coaster in white.

ROFL...AJ is talking about ROI and coasters....this is an *enthusiast* site, AJ....for the ride, the capacity, and the staying power, Gemini is virtually unmatched. I'm no CP historian or anything, but I'd wager that it not only made Arrow a *force* in the industry, but that it also provided fertile ground (and impetus) for CP to grow into the "coaster park" it is today...

...and the investment in time riding Gemini has *always* paid handsome dividends as far as I'm concerned...:)

I just hope that CP was smart enough to go with double gates (as on Millennium Force) for Gemini and to make them FAST. Do it right, and Gemini could have gates and still easily run all six trains. If Gemini can't run all six trains, we're all gonna feel it in longer lines all over that park...
