Geauga Lake or CP?

We're going to CP for a 3-day binge. An evening and a full day are included in our hotel package.

Any opinions on whether the third day would be better spent on an extra day in CP (for $45) or at Geauga Lake (for $25)?

In my opinion, take the extra day at the point if you haven't been there before.

GL is definatly a park worth visiting. It is possible to do everything at CP in 2 days and you can easily do GL in 1, so you should check out GL. You WON'T BE disapointed.
Do you want this to be a vacation, or a trip to amusement parks? The difference is subtle, but important. I would not expect you would be bored in 2.5 days at CP (especially if the water park is open, but even if it isn't.) But, you could certainly take the park at a leisurely pace in 2.5 days. You could probably see the whole thing in 1.5 days, but you'd have to be a bit more agressive about it.

Geauga Lake will provide you with a different experience than CP and is well worth the day there. 2 days there would be significant if you like waterparks but you only have the one day and your going in mid may and they wont be open yet.

I would definately check it out, they have different styles of coasters than CP like X-Flight, and Dominator, a Flying coaster and Floorless coaster. plus a very intense impulse coaster in Steel Venom. 10 coasters overall, and a total of over 50 rides and attractions. hey, it's all Cedar Fair owned, your just experiencing what else they have to offer.

There is tons to do as the park is quite large considering it is one large facility that wraps around the lake, with a floating boardwalk across the lake that provides some very nice views of the park.

GL isnt a straight shot like CP, it wraps around the lake, so just to give you and idea of the size of GL, If you add in all of the waterpark land, since it is all one park, (including next years phase 2 of the waterpark expansion) take it from around the lake and stretch it out straight, you have about the same size as CP's main park, not including the hotels and challenge park, and not including the Soak City. Just the main portion paid for at the gate.

Now, at GL, when you get to the other side of the lake, it is more theme park, the water park is actually down a little further. they also have new Dino Island Motion Simulator and Robots of Mars 4D adventure over there. and several flat rides.

It is well worth it, as CP and GL compliment each other nicely

If you have kids and enjoy water parks (and GL's is open), I'd say spend the extra day at Geauga Lake.

I agree with Jeff here, Cedar Point is more geared for the rides. If you like coasters and then it is better to spend all three days there. Plus you can go to the waterpark, even though personally i have never been there, that would prolly be fun, cause cp might actually take two days to do everything there. Kids would have their fun at cedar point, but geauga lake has a waterpark and a nice kids themed area. The price tag isnt bad and it is only about an hour an a half away so i think that deserves the consideration, in all of what you are looking to do, but likewise have fun and enjoy whatever you decide to do.

Brian Noble has a point, so does everyone else. GL is definately worth visiting if you want to make the visit, especially now with the new price and waterpark.
I got an email that said Geauga Lake's water park will be delayed about 2 weeks after origninal opening date. So I guess it all depends on when your planning on going.

i'm not sure what to put here..

If you do all three day at the Point, I would hope you plan on buying a Season Pass ;) However, under most circumstances, a twilight session and a full day is enough to cover the park very well.
plus if you go to Geauga Lake the admission is lowered once again to about 19.99 from $26 until the waterpark opens in mid-june becuase of the the construction delay, Geauga Lake seems cheaper and well worth it!
$19.99 is a great deal for Geauga Lake. They don't have as many coasters as Cedar Point but they do have good coasters. I am definately going to plan a trip to Geauga Lake this spring. I am probably going to go to Cedar point in the fall. I live in Central Ohio (Mount Vernon) so it's about 2 hours to both of these parks.
I say spend the 3rd at GL.

I believe, strongly, that everything can be done and satisfied in 2 days at the point, so what better deal than to not only ride different rides, but save money too? I point to GL, but that's just my 2 cents. I hope you're happy with whatever you decide. :)

$19.99 sounds almost too good to be true. What's your source?

BTW, if you request the Cedar Point Getaway Guide, you will get a coupon for Geauga Lake ($22.95 for up to 4 people) as well as 6 coupons for $9 off CP Funday tickets, 3 @ 2-for-1 Starlight tickets, and one more for up to 6 people for $3 off Michigan's Adventure tickets. Depending on where you live, they may add another layer to the print job (like a double-cover) with more coupons. Mine has "Special Savings for Canadians", which has 7 @ $12 off CP Funday tickets. Oddly enough, neither Geuaga Lake nor Dorney Park included coupons with their snail-mail brochures.

Good luck with your vacation. We really enjoyed our day at Geauga Lake last year. The day before, we over-extended ourselves at Cedar Point -- we were exhausted. Geauga Lake the following day was nice and relaxing and we rode all of their coasters without ever waiting more than 2 or 3 trains.

If you looked at the park's own website, you'd see that price, though only for pre-memorial day. *** Edited 4/22/2005 3:40:54 AM UTC by Brian Noble***

If your full day at CP is a Saturday, then you need another day at CP. If not, then you could go to GL, but I would still go to CP. Also, you should consider changing your hotel package and just getting a CF season pass. Then you can go back to GL, MiA, come here to VF, go ride Hydra at Dorney, go to WoF, and just generally go nuts.
Someone said that GL doesn't have as many coasters as CP, which is true, but they have more than most parks out there, at a solid 10 coasters. thats not skimpin by any means.

GL is great place. if your not out this way alot then definately do GL, if not, you would be missing out on the full blown Cedar Fair experience if you passed up CP's sister park GL. I'm telling you it compliments CP nicely. The coasters at GL are very unique to the ones at CP, and vise versa. both have styles of coasters the other one doesn't. same goes for flat rides, they each have something different. well worth it.

The 19.99 price tag is good til mid june FYI.

Got an In-the-Loop email from GL yesterday and it stated they are extending the $19.99 admission price through mid-June when the water park opens.

In answer to the question. If you get through CP in 2 days, I would go to GL for the 3rd day. For the price you can't go wrong.

OK! Our schedule is Sunday eve and Monday at CP for sure, and we can see by Monday evening how we feel. It'd be less than half the price of a third day at CP to hit GL, and if the coasters are good and the lines short, that would indeed be a good deal!

We have a package price that includes hotel plus 2 starlight passes and 2 day passes for CP. Very reasonable!
