Geauga Lake Monorail Closed Indefinately!

At a party last night, a supervisor that was there told me they are planning to remove the Monorail and the Skyscraper because of costly repairs. He said that with the Skyscraper, it's something with the gearbox.

#1 Steel-Nitro #1 Wood-Shivering Timbers 137 coasters in track record.
I hope they don't remove the monorail, it's a good family ride.

I'm not too familiar with GL's market, but when I saw how much of Hurricane Hannah's was still intact it didn't seem like it would be too hard to get it reoperating. Could they just use the old waterpark for private parties and rent it out?

I went to GL today for a few hours, taking advantage of the CP passholder deal. I'd say the park is slightly improved over last season, but I didn't get a good enough look at things to really tell. RWB was pretty awesome, and Dominator's vibration was improved but still there. Villain was VERY rough and I hope that it gets the same treatment RWB did; I believe Jeff said it will.

However, as Sam noted above, "Crap Corner" certainly lives up to its name. Today, Big Dipper, Steel Venom, The Monorail, Skyscraper, and X-Flight were all closed by the middle of the afternoon. It wasn't a huge deal for me, but slightly disappointing for a day when they were supposed to be showing the park off.

However, overall I had a good time. It's not CP, but it's certainly a park you can have a lot of fun at and I saw everyone having a great time despite the bad weather. They're on the right track, and eventually it will be a great park.

That is too bad all those rides were closed, definately not good when you are showing off the park to potential new customers.

I guess we now live in an age where all rides operating at parks is the exception to the norm?
^You bet your ascough (sorry, couldn't resist ;) ).

I think the more complex attractions become, the more maintenance they require and (inevitably) the more downtime they experience.

That being said, I would not want my ideal dream park to be filled with Arrow coasters just because they're relatively reliable (for lack of a better example).

^ I however, WOULD want my "Dream Park " filled with Arrow Coasters.

I don't think "Crap Corner" is anything to worry about at the park. Okay, so Monorail is down. fine. Superman is down too, well, they couldn't help it, it malfunctioned. X-Flight goes down all the time. Mind Eraser needs occasional work, so, okay it had to be down as well. Skyscraper... well... I don't know what the deal is with that thing right now either.

Im sure Bill S. isn't too happy with the rides down right now. Heck, I'll bet it drives him nuts.

I have said this before, the reason that Hurricane Harbor looks the way it does is probally the park had no time or money to clean it out yet. They are probally at or over their budget for the year.

I still think Superman and Mind Eraser could be removed for a spinning coaster and refurbishment of the area. Send Superman to Wonderland, send Mind Eraser to Cedar Point

There is no way any coaster from GL is going to CP, let alone Mind Eraser. For one thing CP has enough coasters and on top of that a boomerang isnt going to be a huge draw as a new ride there, and their capacity is absoultly horrible.

2022 Trips: WDW, Sea World San Diego & Orlando, CP, KI, BGW, Bay Beach, Canobie Lake, Universal Orlando

Capacity is virtually meaningless, it's not like a Boomerang would draw ANY line at CP anyway...maybe a GIB, but even that is doubtful.

Maybe MiA or PGA could use HeadSpin (it would need a better name)...but PGA could at least finally have a worthy replacement for the Anton shuttle they removed... :)

I'd put a spinning coaster where Kidworks is and put in a new children's area in the old waterpark.

I say leave Steel Venom and possibly send X-Flight to MiA.

Six years on the site and you're the first to say that. Congrats! ;)

I think the more complex attractions become, the more maintenance they require and (inevitably) the more downtime they experience.

Which is why I find myself gravitating to parks like Knoebels and Kennywood, where the vast majority of attractions are always running because you don't need the natural ability to design a new kind of microchip to keep them running.

I don't think there is any way that they are going to send X-flight anywhere. I would have to say if any coaster is a major draw for GL, it's X-Flight. Head Spin is great right where it's at.
