Gangs and SFMM - CoasterBuzz

S,i hate to bring this up here but,have you read the Asbury Park Press or Observer lately??? Click the link and read what happened at the park recently.

There has been some serious gang problems at SFMM in the past.They now have a fairly substantial security dept. The park has an emergency evacuation plan that clears out the park pretty quickly. They shut down the rides and section by section park security and local law enforcement forms chains and walks everybody out the main gate.
There has been some shootings in the parking lot, and more than the usual "fights" within the park. Some of this has made the local media, most has not.

Speaking of fights. Last time I went this joker hit our front fender because he was too impatient to wait his turn at the parking booth. My brother jumped out of the car to ask him to pull over for information and the guy came at him with a mouth full of swear words and a Mag-Light. My brother got back in the car, then I proceded to swear at hin, used sign language too. He took off so we found his car and "re-keyed" it for him with superglue.

I'm not suprised that happened. My point was that IN the park it seemed pretty safe and that the crowds I've seen were just punk kids. I'm not concerned about a bunch of kids in line with big mouths.

Where I go to school there are a ton of the "ghetto *****" types. Can't stand them, they need to get a life.

When I see video's of rides at SFMM on coaster shows it seems that alot of the people riding the rides are kids and they are without adults. Just my observation.

there might be gangs but they aren't carrying any weapons because the metal detectors would catch that. so feel safe when at the park and know that you'll have a great time.

People metal detectors do not pick up glock's so don't make it out that no gun's get in.

People were scared of my posse at Wonderland.. We called ourselves the WildeBeast, and we would ride the Beast all day...

Is it just me or is this really offensive? I would like somebody to explain exactly how you determine what groups are gangs, and what groups aren't, because it seems to me that a lot of you are happy labeling groups of African-American youth as "gangs." Sounds pretty racist to me.

Maybe I missed it before, Ravenguy98, but I think YOUR post is the first one to mention African American groups. No other post mentions race at all.

S,i agree with your last statement.It is almost always someone who is just looking to let off a little steam or,like someone else said,show off in front of a girl or group of friends that causes any minor commotion at the park.It kills me that the media has to make such a big deal out of a few bad isolated incidents the way they do.I wish these people(the media) would stop making the park look worse then it is.I had said in a past thread,i had a few bad experiences(someone trying to push me down at 8 months pregnant and,almost stomping my 3 yr old to to the ground) but,i still love my homepark and still continue to go,i just am more careful about myself and keeping my kids in front of me or in a carriage to prevent them from getting stomped or hit in the head by a flying arm going past.Bored,obnoxious, kids/adults won't stop me from riding the coasters!There is always a way to avoid any problems.

Yeah, ok, you got me on that one, but I still want to know how you guys label a group a "gang." Tell me, do they have signs that say "This is a gang"?

It's not just the gang problem that scares people away from the park BryanG. It's also the terrible poisonous food and the rude and disrespectful employees. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've had to call a supervisor because the ride operator or the people that walk around the park were being so rude to the guests. One time, I had to tell this one employee that if she wasn't happy with her job, she should quit. She started being real bitter with me and tried to make me regret what I said. But I didn't regret it because what I said because what I said was true and there were other people around me who wanted to tell her the same thing but they didn't have the nerve. So I had to speak on everyone's behalf. I hope this helps you understand why people, including myself, never go to Six Flags anymore. Go on Odyssey night. Never any gangs there and everyone is very friendly.

Six Flags Holland have nice employees and the food is good, but a bit expensive for European terms. Furthermore it is a nice park, but it has to many standard rollercoasters. (SLC, Mack Wild Mouse, Boomerang, kiddiecoaster, nice wooden coaster from Vekoma!, LSM coaster form Vekoma (Rock 'N' Rollercoaster outdoor clone,) Only the SLC is very rough.
