Games

Ah, the flash trick. Here is a list of some that still work, and some that don't.

Cedar Point:
*The shooting gallery near the entrance works well
*The shooting gallery in Frontiertown does not work

Kennywood:
*Does not work

Knott's Berry Farm
*The shooting gallery near the log flume works very well!

Pacific Park:
*The tiny shooting gallery in the big arcade works

Scandia Park, Ontario, California:
*Works

Six Flags Magic Mountain:
*The shooting gallery near Deja Vu and Psyclone does not work

I was, believe it or not, just begining to start a database of which shooting galleries work and which don't. If you've got any data to add to the list, please, please, please drop me an e-mail.

A year or two ago, SFGAm, had a simple dart game. It was just typical soft-tip electronic dart board, and you got to throw 3 darts. If you scored 60 points or more, you won a prize. Well, considering that I used to play bar darts almost every day when I worked in a bar, this wasn't too hard for me to win. The only thing that made it hard, is they used the cheapest, most beat up, chipped, bent & torn plastic darts that money can't buy. Even then I still won the first time I played. Shoot, if I could use my own darts, I'd win with one throw 75% of the time. Anyone know if they still have this game ?

I have yet to lose at a 'Guess Your Age or Weight' booth. I always have the attendant guess my age (if they're within two years, you lose). I think the closest one of them got was about 4 years. They always guess too young.

Wacky Wire. Hmm..never won yet, but there has to be a first.

I tend to stick with $.50 Roll Away at SFGAm's County Fair. It's one of the few games that's 'cheap' and one of the few that I'm actually good at. Other than that, I don't spend too much time on games anymore.
Skeeball! I love that game, I also enjoy playing the racing arcade games. I'm easliy amused... :)

I disagree, ophthodoc, that the whole concept of games looks trashy. In fact, I think games very much add to the amusement park atmosphere. Besides, not everyone goes to amusement parks just to continuously ride roller coasters.

well i used to play the bubble dome game. You know when they have this bubble and inside there is this turn-table that spins around and you put the quater in to move the arm. I have only one it once byt my friend got the GBA that was in the prize case. Another good game is the Time Crisis game. That is so much fun.

Games are fun, but too expensive.. I save my gaming energy for the trips to Kennywood, that dime a game fascination is a nice change from Cedar Point's guess your weight games ("Pay me $5 and you'll probably get one of these prizes that isn't worth a nickel.")

Agreed. A trip to Kennywood isnt complete without a good hour spent on the dime tic-tac-toe game in the Penny Arcade. They're great, almost like my gambling fix since I wont be 21 in several years. There's nothing quite like the feeling of getting a double tic-tac-toe, and watching those square tickets come flying out. And some of the prizes are actually kinda worth getting, I think. I got a nice model boat a few years back, which I still have sitting on my dresser today.

Kennywood Park, America's finest traditional amusement park.

I am personally a fan of almost all games. Basketball games, un-ball games, wacky wire (wizard wire) SKEE BALL !!

And along the lines of what Jeff was saying, they seriously need to do something with all "da wanna be ballaz" (as they say in my hood) bouncing the basketballs like they got some sort of skills. I'm sure I could beat 8 out of 10 of them in a real game anyway. They need to just hand them out deflated if they are still gonna give them out.

First off I would like to thank The Cheat ... for helping me cheat.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't say that.

My favorite game is avoiding the barkers. I would rather ride the rides than waste my money on those crooked games.

What I find most funny is the sheer number of people who say that they'd rather spend the money on food rather than games. If that doesnt play up to the "ACEr sterotype"...

Anyway, kinda like Joe Carrol, I spent a lot of time playing darts in college (my friend had a dartboard). So now, pretty much anytime I see a dart game (usually breaking balloons) I play it. Also, I like the little "mini-bowling alleys" like "Power Alley" @ SFGAm. Those always garner me some 'plush' toys (which can then me given to little cousins at Christmastime).

My current favorite home video game!

CBaby and I enjoy dueling at the water races. By season's end we're usually quite good and then we'll begin ambushing other groups of players to steal their big prize. Poor, poor people. Dad coughs up $10 for the kids to play and I send my well-trained 10 year-old to rob him.

Funniest/worst game was Late September '01 where I robbed your basic family of four and Dad angrily shelled out $10 more and personally lined up to rescue the family honor. Bad idea. Very bad idea.

My other fave is the ping-pong toss into those shallow floating plastic cups. This year, I tend to walk off with a medium prize for $5--an improvement from last year. I used to always wind up with two smalls, but since I had two kids with me, hey...

-'Playa

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

Favorite midway game is the ring toss. Even though it's all luck, something about the sound of dozens of rings bouncing around on glass bottles draws me in. Also, if you win, you get something huge.

In the arcade, at least this year, I have trouble going any further than DDR. Before I got into that, I played a lot of Police Trainer and Point Blank.

And anyplace that has classic games, I'm going to spend some time playing those. I look in particular for Super Pac-Man, Track and Field, Marble Madness, Arkanoid and Donkey Kong. I believe Hersheypark's arcade has all of these, which made me very happy when I was there last year.
