CPLady - Chris will be the first regular poster to hit Dodonpa, and he better serve up one hell of a TR. :)

I'm pretty sure Peabody did *not* get to ride it.

Nothing like a little pressure, right Chris? :)

CPlady, I did not get to ride it :( I took lots of pics, but it didn't open until several months later.

Chris, the pressure's on buddy!

I just hope it's running when I'm there. I'll call ahead when I get to Tokyo to make sure. I know it's been down quite a bit in the past. As far as a TR, no problem there. It should be pretty good if we (my wife Marife and I) get to go to all the parks we've planned to visit. Here'a a list, please make further suggestions if you'd like, especially if you know of some wood coasters that aren't covered here:

Island of Kyushu: Kijima Korakuen, Mitsui Greenland, and Space World

Island of Honshu: Korakuen (Tokyo Dome), Yomiuri Land, Tobu Dobuto Koen, Fuji-Q, and Nagashima SpaLand.

We only have two weeks in which to accomplish this. I also need to solidify some work, for when I return again next year. On top of that, I'll be preforming in Kobe while I'm there. No sleep for the wicked. Who needs it when there's fun to be had.

By the way, check out the on-ride videos of 2 amazing-looking coasters found at Tobu Dobuto Koen: http://www.tobuzoo.com/playland/movie/rm/rejina-512.ram, http://www.tobuzoo.com/playland/movie/rm/mt-512.ram

The girl is cute, but I wish they showed more of the actual rides. Also, they appear to have a Crazy Mouse that does a loop. That is crazy! http://www.lakesquare.com/rollercoaster/eng/park/tobu.html

more later, chris m

Chris,
Hanyayashiki in Asakusa is a great little park to visit while in Tokyo as it's right next to Senso-Ji temple, so you can do a little non-coaster sightseeing when you go. You could easily do it the same day you do Korakuen or Tobu Zoo (which I didn't know about when I was there, sounds cool! can't wait to hear your report on it). The roller coaster at Hanyashiki, which was Japan and Togo's first, is surprisingly fun. It also has a bizarre old dark ride which I got a kick out of. Speaking of which, make sure to do the walk through haunted house at Nagashima. It has some nice effects.

P.S.-I can't believe you're giving up DisneySea to go to Kyushu. Crazy man, crazy.

Where is the cute girl.

Just click on the Tobu Zoo ride videos and there she is, unless you've already seen her and don't think she's cute.

Well, as far as DisneySea's concerned, I may have to put that back on the list. And if I do that, I'll have to go to Disneyland as well. I can hardly remember what Space Mountain's like when actually dark, so it will be nice to experience that again. Thanks, ThemeDesigner, for the info on Asakusa. I'll have to put that on the list also. That puts it at 11 parks, if my math is correct. I don't think I'll be spending too much time at any of them, except for Spaland, Fuji-Q, and the Disney parks. Those will require full days.

Hey, another guy that's been on some Japan coasters. Neat. :)

Anyway, for a real Fuji-Q trip report, go here:

TOGO!

Chris,
I almost can't believe I'm saying this, but with all you're trying to do Tokyo Disneyland may not be worth the time. It only has 2 attractions not found elsewhere (Though its Splash Mountain is by FAR the best of the 3, and Big Thunder there is quite good) It's really just an odd feeling version of Florida's Magic Kingdom, though admittedly it is like the Magic Kingdom of my childhood with its 1980's cast member costumes, it's gleaming white Tomorrowland, and OLC's fastidious attention to cleanliness and detail. Unless you are a HUGE Disney fan (which, judging by the fact you were going to skip these anyway, I'm guessing you don't fall into that Category) I'd suggest you take the time you'd spend at Tokyo Dland and actually SEE a little of the Japan that lies outside the gates of amusement parks ;)
Of course, they still have the A-E ticket system there so you could pay the admission fee and just ride Space, Thunder, and Splash and be on your way in an house or so. (Even on busy days the lines are longer for the Pooh shop and the Kettle Corn stand than they are for any of the Coasters)
When I was there last year the A-E ticket system was gone. I think it went with the introduction of fastpass.

Wow, checked the website, it is gone. That's kind of sad.
I was there November of 2000, at which time they had Fastpass but still had per ride tickets, so Fastpass isn't what did it. Perhaps it was due to Disneysea, to keep folks from park hopping (And to make more money ;)
I did note they have an after 6 on weeknights passport for about 3500 yen, That may be your best bet Chris (Plus, it's about what the gate price was when they did have ride tickets, so it's a good deal)
Thanks for the advice. I actually plan on seeing a great deal of ancient Japan while I'm there. Almost within walking distance of every park we plan to visit are ancient temples and shrines, onsen (mineral spas), and other traditional places to see. It's really amazing if you think about it. You can visit a place that is about 5 times as old as our country, then walk to an amusement park or a mall that's newer than any we have here in the states. Such a contrast.
