Frontier City Coasters Oklahoma

Ok, I know that there are many of you out there that are just as curious as I am about what Frontier City is doing. For about 3 years or more, the old track from Excalibur taken down from Six Flags Astroworld has been in the yard behind the park. Now in the last year, the park bought land across the street behind the park and theres what looks like red supports and track pieces that are sitting in this newly cleared location. Does anyone know what's going on? I mean it's sad that Froniter City is the main office for Premier Parks, which owns quite a few six flags parks, when Frontier City is falling apart at the ankles.
Whatever they do with Excalibur, I don't think it will be much of an improvement to the park. I have familly 5 minutes from FC and they, as well as everybody they know, go to the park like most people go to the mall. It's someplace to hang out. And I think Six Flags is OK with that. As long as people will drive an extra 2 hours to SFOT, I don't think they're going to worry to much about FC.

Yeah I agree, but still, looking at the way they raise the cost every year and the season passes are more expensive than a lot of "Six Flags" parks, I think that a company so much in debt as premier parks couldn't afford to have a park that just sat there. I mean they might just as well demolish it and put a mall there. But they advertised the "hangman," a Chance thrill ride, 2 years ago but never opened it or even built it until a year after it was supposed to open. What's that all about?

2 Hours Slurk? How fast do you go? To get from FC to SFOT in 2 hours you will need to be driving atleast 110 MPH at all times. According to MapQuest.com you will need to travel 213.19 miles, Which would take around 3 hours, 37 minutes to get there. IF SF didn't care about the park, Then why is SF buying land around the park? To build some strip malls, NO! They are buying land to expand that park and to make it better. I've been to the park in Sept. of 2000, I found it to be OK except for the lack of drinking fountains and the excessive beer on the midways. From what i saw the park still needs some improvements to the Games area (the remote control boats were vandalized when I was there) and lots of improvements are needed for the landscaping. That is my 2 cents worth here.

Let me clerify that, FC is 2 hrs from where I live, SFOT is 4 hrs...sorry!

For that last 4 or 5 years I've been going with my kids band or church group, and it has been awful. The place is filthy, there are always several rides down, they never seem to have enough ride ops, the concessions are terribly understaffed, the food barn winds up packed by people trying to avoid the heat....I've been told that the staffing and conditions are normally OK, but they don't make alowances for days when they expect high attendance like the state band contest or Christian family day.

The kids I know would rather spend an extra 2 hours on a buss to ride Titan or B:TR than Excalibur or the Silver Bullet.

I'm sorry to sound so negative about the place. It's a nice park with lots of potential, but it seems like management doesn't care any more.

I totally agree!!! Frontier City is a piece of crap!!!

Well Slurk, There's your reason on why the park needs to be expanded. I have heard bad things about visiting FC durring the prime summer months but it issn't a total piece of crap. This park has some good rides in it I loved their coasters and the rapids ride they had there. My favorite coaster there was the Diamond Back, which is an Rare Arrow Shuttle Loop. The diamond back walk up wassn't too bad becasue a ramp takes you half way up, then you would only need to walk the rest of the way up steps. Also I loved teh ejector seat Airtime on the ride coming off the hills. I never thought much of an Arrow Shuttle Loop until I rode this one. Now I wish there were more left. So FC is not a piece of crap.

I can't decide is it BGW or SDC/CC.
Coming to WOF in 2003: A New Dippin' Dots stall :-)

yeah, well all Frontier City has are old coasters that other parks threw away (I.E.)The Diamond Back and an old mediocre Schwarzkopf portable coaster that they threw there. Theres soo many issues in that park that need to be fixed. Every day half the rides are broken, and all of them either need replacement parts or need to be painted. All together the park just seems like a big waste of money to me. No wonder premier parks is in the red so much.
I think Frontier City is about to explode in a good way (I hope so anyway). Recent history of the park suggested that expansion was high on their list of priority - but the park did run into some opposition to their plans (neighbors, etc.).

One other set back was the Tornado that hit the park just a few years back - they basically had to rebuild most of the fronts of the buildings, replace some rides, etc.

So, why hasn't there been much happening? Well I think there has been, it's just been behind the scenes. Take a look at what has happened, or is happening around the park? Most of the land that was for sale adjacent to the park is now owned by Frontier City - the large piece of land to the south, the hotel to the north, the large piece of land to the west, and a second large piece of land to the north (which use to be the ride graveyard). The undeveloped land now owned by the park is probably twice as large as what they are using now. There are a couple other pieces of land which could be purchased - including a house which is right across the street from the back of the current parking lot. I'm not trying to make excuses for the park - but there are some things happening out there.

I had heard a rumor that Frontier City was going to add, a water park, amphitheater, and a coaster in the near future. I don't know why they would add the water park, unless they would move White Water Bay out there and sell the land it currently sits on (or Mr. Storey likes the water park/theme park option for his Six Flags parks).

Like I have wished before - If they would install the Excalibur coaster; add a decent multi-loop (Shockwave); rework the current coasters to actually use multiple trains and have automatic/hydraulic gate systems in the stations; spread out some of the current rides to make larger walkways and make the park seem bigger; add just a couple more fun flat rides (Chaos, Top Spin); and make sure all the rides they currently have are in good working order - then, I think, the people in Oklahoma would really be excited about the place. This wouldn't take much, considering the biggest rides installed (Excalibur and Shockwave) are already owned by the Six Flags Corporation. This dream expansion would not qualify Frontier City to become a Six Flags branded park - but it would make it a lot closer.

I would love to see Shockwave go to FC, i just dont see how or where it would fit in, this place is tiny. I agree, though, Diamondback is the only good coaster there, the drop coming back has some of the best airtime ever. If you have ever ridden "Hangman", which is supposably(sp?) a free fall ride, doesnt even give a freefall feeling.

I didn't know that FC owned all the land around the current park. I thought they just owned that small cleared piece behind it. Where did you hear about this? I thought Frontier City was doing good when they got into the healthy habit of offering a new ride each year (I.E.) The Tomahawk, Mindbender, and as for the Hangman(which is about as fun as riding an automatic car wash).. well... Hangman was a good try at least. Sadly though it seems like there isn't any new attraction for 2003 either except maybe upgrading from using grade k meat to grade a, but yeah I would seriously like to know what is really going on in that field and if they have any plans at all to expand and maybe build something new.
Frontier City will have a brand new S&S Sky Sling for 2003.

Well theres the problem then! Cause I have not seen or heard a word about that. They must have a horrible advertising team. Cause when I drive by every day, I laugh cause they still have the Fright Fest Halloween billboard still up. And I haven't seen any construction going on at all. I personally think it would help the park out majorly to put in a Huss "Land of the giants." Holy smokes! have you seen that? I would put that in if it was my park.
A) The Sky Sling hasn't been announced yet, as far as I know.
B) A park the size of Frontier City doesn't need flats as large or high-capacity as Huss Giant rides (and would probably never see enough of an attendance increase to justify the expense). Regular Huss rides would do fine.

Next time you go by the park take the E. Hefner Road exit and then go north on N. Coltrane Road. You might see some construction around the "splash pond" for the Wildcat coaster. Last time I drove by, I did notice they have removed that pond (large piles of broken concrete).

The property thing......Well you can look this stuff up using the www.oklahomacounty.org website. Currently the park sits on approximately 38 acres - the county shows that frontier city partners and Six Flags own approximately 75 acres of undeveloped land surrounding the current park. Also, if you map out what they own - there are a couple of gaps between some of their properties. Maybe it is these "hold outs" that are causing a delay in the park from really developing. Another interesting note, is the property just to the north of the park (which they were using as a ride graveyard) doesn't show to be owned by Six Flags. Maybe that was the reason they moved all the stuff (Excalibur, etc.) - but they continue to use that property, so maybe they are leasing that land too.

Frontier City is almost a good park. All they need to do is have multi train operation on wildcat and the Looping Star(i forgot the name and it it has 2 trains or not i forgot, i just remember it taking 5 minutes to dispatch a train), and add a coaster or two then the park will be decent.

Visit Oklahoma! My government doesn't know how to budget money so they need yours.

I used to live in San Antonio 2 years ago. I lived to see Six Flags Fiesta Texas way before it was Six Flags and just Fiesta Texas. Now I remember when all they had were the Rattler and a bunch of flat rides. When Premier Parks(six flags) bought it out, they spent 60+ million the next 3 years to put in a lim coaster, an arrow mine train, a boomerang and the now dismantled corkscrew. Before the major expansion, there was NOBODY there. After they spent the money, the population went haywire. I think that is what Frontier City needs. You know everyone I talk to here I ask if they want to go to FC they say "no, cause it sucks." If they would at least fix their rides and put some effort into the park people would flock to it. I mean c'mon, this is Oklahoma City. There is NOTHING to do here. If you have a theme park that's so lame that people would rather walk around Wal Mart for hours than ride coasters, then that's pretty sad. Also they need to fire whoever decides to put on those corny shows. I mean every show in the park seems like it was written and directed by Burt Renolds.
