Frivolous Topic....The Whole SF/Comic Book Thing.

First you have: Superman:The Escape....Superman:The Ultimate Escape.....Superman:The Krypton Coaster.....Superman:Ultimate Flight....Superman:Ride of Steel.....

Then you have: Batman:The Ride....Batman:The Knight Flight....Batman & Robin:The Chiller.....Batwing.....and Mr. Freeze.

Now I have absolutely nothing against comic books or super hero's......but when does enough become enough? Who would like to see the next great SF coaster be named something other than Superman-something or Batman-something?

It's not bad enough that they keep using the same superhero names... but to confuse the matter even more, some coasters named after the same superhero are only variations on a theme...

Take Superman for example: Escape, Ultimate Escape, Ultimate Flight.

SFA shows signs of an identity crisis. While none of their coasters share the same name and only a few come from the same "comic book" (characters of Two Face and Joker along with the vehicle Batwing), they do have some odd placement for certain rides. I'm not talkling about Superman in Gotham City (purists would argue that no, Batman ONLY should be in Gotham), but I am talking about Two Face way on the other side of the park with nothing related to any superhero around. Come to think of it, the name Mind Eraser in the old western section of the park doesn't quite fit either.

I totally disagree. In fact, I think that quite the opposite is true. They have solidified their identity.

As enthusiasts, you forget that the bulk a Six Flags park's audience isn't going to visit another Six Flags park. "So big, so close" is their tag, and the idea is that they're regional attractions. It doesn't mean a hill of beans that there's another Batman/Superman ride at the next park because most people won't visit that next park.

So far, none of the Six Flags parks have packaged themselves as true destinations. Until then, I don't think it matters how many rides carry the same name.

How many people actually know the secondary titles of the rides anyway? It's always, "Let's go ride Superman, then Batman."

Also, if the rides actually somehow reflected some aspect of their namesakes (as Hulk and DD do), then there might be an issue, but as long as SF is slapping totally random names on it's coasters, they might as well use the same ones over and over.

AC?, RB?, MF?, DD?, PR? Who can keep track of it all?

You're all right. Yes, stupid names suck. Yes, Six Flags has done well with marketing. Yes, no one but us cares one way or the other.

Well, what I meant by the second half of my post is... if you want to name coasters after superheros / villians, then keep them in one section of the park (Gotham City) and come up with something different for other sections.

....gotta admit it is a *tad* difficult when asked "what's your favorite ride" by someone in line at SFoG....I want to say S:RoS, but I can't do that for obvious reasons, and I can't just say "Superman" for other obvious reasons....so I just say "Hulk"....;)....j/k, I actually spend the time to try and edumacate them up about them thar coasters.....

At least Busch has no comic book tie-ins, other than DuffMan....Ohhhhh Yeeeaaaahhhh.....
