Foward pass(football) first started at CP?

Came across an intresting link talking about CP and who's from the sandusky area, it turns out John Gruden is from sandusky, and a real intresting story(but short) of how Knute Rockne and his players used to work at CP and supposedly thats where they came up with the foward pass before using it in a game.

Here is another story with a little blurb about CP but it has a pic of the new coaster in the distance its taken from a confedarate soldier statue.

On Sunday afternoon drives that have dwindled since my brother, sister and I got up in age, we would head out to Johnson's Island and drive around. One weird thing was seeing CP from there, getting a different perspective. It is sad to see that history will soon become history.

Are you shure, I heard Amos Alozo Stagg when he coached at Univeristy of the Pacific, in Stockton, near my hometown, invented it, he also invented the huddle.

Pretty sure I recall it *was* Knute Rockne and ND....and that was the LAST time ND had a successful passing game....;). I joke, since ND ruined one of MY trips to The Big Easy when *The Bus* ran roughshod over my Gators in the second half of the Sugar Bowl...:(

It's true, it's true

ESPN The Rag even did a story about it a while ago.

Seems knute was a life guard and when things were dead they would play football and they started throwing the ball over hand and forward and realized their was no rule againt this.

There is an Ohio Historical Marker somewhere out there that has the story on it, but it is one bugger to find it.

Another bit of football trivia...the Bucs' Ken Dilger is from Mariah Hill, Indiana, just a few miles from Santa Claus...Mariah Hill is also the hometown of our own Pat Koch. And Ken also my husband's second cousin.

But I still didn't watch the game. :)

You didn't miss much. For the most part, even the TV spots sucked. Now Gwen and Sting at half-time... that was a magic moment. :)

Let's see...Gruden married his wife in Sandusky. I married my wife in Sandusky. Gruden looks like Chuck. I look like Chucky. Where's my millions?

Oh, I guess it would help if I knew something about coaching football.

It was Knute Rockne who married his wife in Sandusky.

Is is just me, or does Mariah Hill sound like something I'd find in the music store....right between Mariah Carey and Faith Hill, of course...;)

Oh, and since the Bucs did win XXXVII (37 for the non-Roman-tics out there)...does that make them l337....;)

Actually, the huddle was invented by Gallaudet University. For those of you who do not know, Gallaudet is a university for the hearing impaired. As you can imagine, they communicate using sign language. As a result, their football program needed a way to communicate without the other team being able to easily intercept (no pun intended) the play calls. They came up with the huddle. They would all stand around the play-caller and then the play would be signed.
