For our park railfans B&O museum bad news

I am not one of your *railfans*, but I did get to go to the Museum while living in Maryland. It was pretty cool since I generally enjoy history. But I gotta say, I'm impressed by the knowledge of some of you.

Will be good to see 765 on the road again. Been too long since we've had big steam on the rails around here.

I still remember watching NW 1218 and 611 pound up the old Wabash just down the road from me in the mid 80's.

At least UP still recognizes the value of good PR and 844 and 3985 are still on the rails. Thank John Bromley for that.

I can't believe I used to live near the Illinois museum and never knew about it. D'oh!

Hopefully the B&O will get everything fixed up quickly. We do have the Ohio Railway Museum here in central Ohio, but they're a lot smaller and suffer from a severe lack of funds. :(

Anybody been to Cass West Virginia? It and the Durango & Silverton line are great.
Hey MagnumForce,

Pioneer Zephyr running at IRM? The Pioneer is at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. I think the IRM has just one of the, dare I say, "regular" Zephyr passenger trains (the locomotive is an E5-A) that the CB&Q ran. You can check out the Pioneer here.

There's a B&O Station where I live (Youngstown, Ohio) that has been converted into a restraunt and brewery. :-)

I rode the D&SNGRR and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad 10 years ago. Both are great train rides, but the C&TSRR has a more authentic narrow gauge railroad atmosphere. The 4% grade from Cumbres Pass to Chama is unforgettable.
Any coaster/railfan coming to the Pacific Nortwest to ride the new S&S woodie at EVWW and the Vancouver PNE Coaster, I would recommend a side trip to the Mt. Rainier Scenic RR. They have 5 operating logging steam locomotives. These include a Pacific Coast 3 truck Shay,a 3 truck Climax,a 3 truck Heisler,a very rare Porter 2-8-2 and an ALCO 2-8-2T. For a little extra fare, you can get a cab ride. I have ridden in the cab of the Shay and the ALCO 2-8-2T. Go to www.mrsr.com for more info.

Lets' save the Vancouver PNE Coaster before its'too late!

Confirmed, Lesourdsville Lake opening for 2003 details soon at Lesourdsville.com

Space Mountain, Actually teh Zephyr at IRM was the second one the Nebraska Zephyr. I mispoke. It came on line right after the Pioneer. It was originally powered by the same type of shovel nosed EMC Locomotive. I have been in both of them.

I am not big on Tourist or Park roads. It's Mainline action I am interested in.

Check out my page which looks horrible sense I moved it from train web to Dave's server. Have some serious work to do but you get the idea of my kind of railroad action.

A long LONG time ago, I got to see the Silverton-Durango trains during a trip to CO (obviously, LOL). We didn't have time to ride the train, but even the drive in that area was beautiful....and *dangerous*....small wonder drunk-driving isn't a serious problem there with ALL those "roadside cliffs"...;)

Ronald S Anderson - thanks for the Mt Rainer info, I got family in Seattle and next time I visit will have to go ride the line. Never seen a working Heisler or Climax. Cass had some but they were in very sad shape.

Just in case any of the railfans were wondering, the B&O RR Museum has cancelled the Fair of the Iron Horse Festival that was to take place this year. They cited the immmense damage to the roundhouse as the main cause.
The Baltamore Roundhouse is not infact, the last standing fully inclosed roundhouse standing on the B&O, Take a trip to Martinsburg WVa., directly across from the station, which is the Oldest station served by Amtrak, sits a pre Civil War Roundhouse and Backshop building, they are working on funding to fully restore this facility, As for now it is weatherproofed and boarded up.
