Flying Coasters....For them or against them?

I've ridden X-Flight and happen to be a big fan of it. Same for the GP around here.

I certainly don't mind having everyone run in the opposite direction of Nitro when the park opens. :-)

I always run in the opposite direction as Nitro - but not to S:UF. :)

Said in jest, please don't hate. I just love getting a dig in on Nitro whenever possible.

SUF at SFGAm is one of if not the best ride that I have ever been on IMO. I love it and every thing about it. The whole point of the ride is to make you feel like you flying hence the name flying coaster and Superman Ultimate "Flight" and be very very comfortable in the process its not to break any records. Which i think is a good Idea in some aspects because you will have more people come and reride it and wanna keep re riding it just for the real experince of flying. The Pretzel is awesome so many G's.But the rest of the ride is great as well I love the overbanked turns. I also like how you take the Inline twist slow Its fun.

That'd explain why I never see the crowds and waits that everyone always talks about. Parks are always empty when I visit. Now I know why. No shower for me, thank you!

I keep reading that the flyers are a hit with the GP. I think Six Flags expanded the ride to other parks to soon. Let's see if ridership for SUF @ SFOG is as high as it was from last year. Sure any ride is going to be packed the first season or two. When I went to SFWOA twice last year. The lines foe Batman and Superman were longer than X Flight.

I pray that the next coaster @ CP will be an Arrow 4D

I think the idea is great! I just don't think we've seen a very creative approach or layout just yet. I agree with others that possibly an indoor version with heavy theming and close fly-by's would be great. I would also love to see a spiralling vertical drop, as long as the g's on the pullout were manageable.

Most of all, I think if we had a B&M with a longer and faster paced layout and was built as a terrain-hugging flight through a canyon and/or woods, it would be a huge hit. Afterall, Birds of Prey are already a popular way to name a coaster, why not simulate that dive and/or chase in the ride style most similar to the real thing.

My guess, if it ever happens, would be an order from a park by Paramount or Universal.

There have been rumors that SFFT will build a custom B&M flyer next year. Just rumors, sure, but considering the terrain of that park, I think it is a very intriguing idea...

Speaking of birds of prey, since the rumor of Carowinds getting a flyer or some sort of B&M hit, well, actually before then, I've thought of how cool it would be to have a flyer themed to star trek with the name Bird of Prey, theme it to a Klingon Bird of Prey ship, etc. Or even name it Enterprise. I'd love to see some Star Trek theme in Paramount parks, and this would be quite good, IMHO, but thats just a thought, not that I think it will ever happen.

Yeah, if coasters WEREN'T men we'd have Raging Cow instead!;)

I've only been on X-flight so far, but I don't like them for the same reason I don't like skycoasters (when being pulled backward)...I don't like having all my weight on my chest. I find it uncomfortable. Plus, if the restraint would fail, you have no hope of hanging on to finish the ride. If a traditional coaster's lap bar breaks, at least I can hold on to something to keep myself in the seat (or at least have a chance to).

I rode the SUF. Now I can say I'm against.

Here's my idea: A flyer-type coaster in an 'immersively themed' setting like Disney's Peter Pan. Now *that* would be cool.

and pirate ship themed ride vehicles?

I love flyers...though I have only ridden S:UF, It is awesome. the loading process is cool, and going up the lift hill prone position is great...great thrill and trust in the restraints. swooping turns are fun, and what makes inverted so special anyway? everyone says flyings are lame, but so are inverted coasters in the same sense.

I am one.
I am Turbo.
Top Thrill in the front row... anything else is lame
I've ridden Batwing (SFA) and SUF at SFoG and I feel the B&M is more refined but the overall layout is better on the Vekoma.

The biggest complaint with all of them is the riding position. You can't tell where you are going on any of them even in the front row. If they would put the riding position about the angle that you are in Going up the lift hill on SUF it would be a whole lot better and a lot easier on your neck also.

Overall I think there is a lot more that can be done with a 4th dimension coaster than any flyer.

I LOVE X~Flight at SFWOA ...If only they could get it 3 train / 2station operational. I hate waiting in line for it. the que could be 10 people deep and you'd have to wait 20 minutes to ride...

WOOF !

I don't think anyone can make a sound predicition on the life of the flyer coasters until more custom layouts are built. Unfortunataley the capabilities of the flyers have not been tested yet due to the limited number of layouts that have been built. I think with time and a park who's willing to pay, both B&M and Vekoma can perfect their designs and push the flyers beyond what they are today. But if parks are not willing to pay or push the flyer concept to the limit I do believe that flyers will become what the stand-ups are today, an old novelty.
If B&M would only put the flying trains on Batman the ride or Raptor!

I will say this, X-Flight is the best Vekoma I have ever ridden. :) I rode UF at GADV, and the pretzel loop is a beautiful thing, the rest is pretty boring, but relaxing.
Look, I'm going to tell you that yes, I like flyers. Now stop saying you know what I like/don't like!

Is that a Q-bot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

I hated Batwing but I liked Stealth. I would like to get on the B&M flyers sometime.
